Retrieving The Flock

David's Cattle is a 1 Strength, 1 Hope Cattle Token from the Israel Age. As a Token, it cannot be added to a player’s deck and is only brought into play through specific card effects, most notably from David, God’s Heart, and Flock Sheep, which generate this Token during gameplay.

The Shepherd’s Flock

David began as a keeper of sheep, tending his father’s flock in the quiet hills of Bethlehem. These animals were his responsibility, fed, protected, and guided under his watchful care. Yet in God’s design, those sheep became more than livestock. They were a picture of Israel itself, a nation chosen and loved, set apart as the flock of the Lord. "Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture" - Psalm 100:3.

Through the long centuries, the prophets spoke of Israel as the cattle and sheep of God’s fold, wandering at times, but never forgotten by the Shepherd of Israel. David’s care for his flock reflected God’s heart for His people, ready to fight off the lion and the bear, ready to face any enemy that would come against them. In the fullness of time, the true Shepherd appeared, the One who would lay down His life for the sheep. His voice called them out of the wilderness and into the promise of His kingdom.

This card's verse is 1 Samuel 17:20:

"And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle."

The shepherd imagery was never meant to end with David’s pastures. It points forward to the Son of David, who gathers His people with a stronger hand and a greater love. In the days to come, the scattered sheep of Israel will be restored to their land, under the reign of the Messiah. The King will dwell among them, and they will know His voice perfectly. Every prophecy will find its “Yes” in Him.

The Bride Beyond the Fold

The sheep of God remain precious, yet there is a mystery revealed in the gospel, a people drawn from every tribe, tongue, and nation, brought together as the Bride of Christ. This is more than being cared for as sheep; it is union, covenant, and love beyond measure. The Bride is not simply led by the Shepherd but is one with Him, bone of His bone and flesh of His flesh.

David’s sheep were kept safe in the hills, but the Bride will dwell with the Shepherd, clothed in glory, reigning with the Lord God Almighty. Israel will have her promised peace, yet the Bride will share the throne, forever joined to the King. This is the higher calling, the greater position, the eternal inheritance given through grace and truth in Jesus Christ.

Believer, you are more than part of the flock, you are the Bride, redeemed and adorned for the Lamb. You have been purchased with the precious blood of Christ, set apart in holiness, and sealed for the day when the marriage supper of the Lamb begins. Your place is secure, your future is bright, and your identity is forever bound to the One who loves you with an everlasting love. You reign with Him, not by merit, but by His mercy. And in His presence, you will know joy unending.
