Out Of The Smoke

Evil Locust costs 1 Faith and is a Spirit Being from the Wrath Age, entering with 3 Strength and 2 Hope. It also comes with a Prophecy effect that grants your opponent 3 points when played. This creates a fast but risky option, powerful for early pressure, but not without its tradeoffs.

The Abyss Unleashed

From the depths of the abyss, a terrible army will rise. Evil locusts unlike anything the earth has ever seen, shaped by the power of the unseen realm. They will not devour grass or trees like the insects of this world, but will strike at humanity itself. Their sting will carry the agony of a scorpion, and their torment will last for months. This vision, given to John, is more than a warning, it is a revelation of the spiritual reality that will unfold in the days of judgment. These will come to torment with pain in the first half of the 7 year covenant. These locusts are not bound by the laws of nature, for their origin is spiritual and demonic, loosed when the key to the bottomless pit is turned and the smoke of darkness rises.

In the days of the Old Testament, locust plagues were signs of divine judgment, sent as visible consequences for rebellion. Egypt experienced them before the exodus, their swarming numbers darkening the land. But here, in Revelation, they take on a far more terrifying form, moving not as creatures of the field, but as instruments of wrath from the abyss. They are led by a king, Apollyon, the destroyer, showing that these are not random calamities, but a coordinated attack under the authority of these hellish devils itself.

This card's verse is Revelation 9:3:

"And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power."

These visions remind us that the tribulation will be a time unlike any other. It will not simply be a natural disaster or human conflict, it will be heaven and hell colliding openly upon the earth. The veil between the seen and the unseen will be pulled back. Just as the prophets saw chariots of fire and angelic hosts, here John sees the army of darkness moving with terrifying precision, fulfilling prophecy exactly as God has declared in His Word.

Judgment and Deliverance

The presence of these evil locusts is a sign of both justice and separation. They are given power, but their power is limited by the authority of God. They will strike, but not destroy. They will torment, but not touch those sealed by the Lamb. This is the pattern we see throughout Scripture, God’s people are always marked, always protected, always delivered according to His promise. From the blood on the doorposts in Egypt to the seal upon the foreheads in Revelation, the redeemed are set apart.

This separation also shows the spiritual battle for the souls of mankind. The enemy’s forces do not move at their own will, they are bound by the commands of the Creator. Even the abyss opens only when given permission. Satan’s fury is great, but it is powerless against the will of God. Every sting, every movement, every moment is part of the greater plan that will lead to the return of Christ in glory.

Believer, you are not appointed to wrath. The locusts of judgment are not for you. You are sealed in Christ, redeemed by His precious blood, and hidden in the shadow of His wings. You are part of the body of Christ, the Bride who will be caught up to meet Him before these events unfold. Your hope is not in your strength, but in the finished work of Jesus, who has already overcome the world. Walk in boldness, rest in His grace, and rejoice in the promise that "when Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory" - Colossians 3:4.

Strategic Use In Gameplay

This Being thrives in aggressive or rush strategies, where the goal is to flood the board and force aggression before your opponent can stabilize. While it gives the opponent 3 points upon entering, its strong stats for 1 Faith make it excellent for early trades or swift attacks. Combined with Spirit synergy and a low cost, it finds its place in decks aiming to overwhelm quickly rather than control slowly.

Synergies and Plays:

  • Early Game Pressure: At 3/2 for 1 Faith, this is a highly efficient unit, capable of trading up or delivering quick damage.

  • Risk–Reward Tempo: The opponent gains 3 points, but you establish aggressive board presence, ideal when you’re dictating tempo.

  • Spirit Synergy: Pairs well with other Spirit cards or themes that capitalize on death effects or recursion for cheap units.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why would I give my opponent 3 points?

A: You’re paying a small cost for a massive early board advantage. If you're in an aggressive deck, you can negate the drawback by applying pressure faster than they can recover.

Q: Can I mitigate the Prophecy somehow?

A: While you can't avoid the point gain, cards that penalize the opponent for gaining points or control the board can reduce the downside’s impact.

Q: Is this card useful late game?

A: Less so. Evil Locust is best used in the opening turns, where tempo is more critical than long-term value.
