Anointed for Battle, Guarded for Glory
Oil Anointing is an Uncommon Event from the Israel Age, costing 1 faith and granting a powerful blessing to your board. This card gives Anointing to a target friendly Being, which means it ignores the first instance of damage it would take. It's a low-cost, high-impact play that can tip the tide of combat in your favor.
The Anointing of the King
The prophet Samuel stood before a young shepherd in Bethlehem, a horn of oil in his hand. David was overlooked by men, but chosen by God. The oil flowed over his head, marking him as king by divine appointment. From that day, the Spirit of the Lord rested upon him, shaping his steps, guiding his heart, and preparing him for a throne he would one day fully occupy. This was not just a symbol, it was the heavenly declaration of authority, favor, and destiny.
David’s journey after his anointing was filled with battles, wilderness seasons, and moments where the crown seemed far away. Yet the anointing never left him. God’s promise was sure. Kingship was not a matter of circumstance, it was a matter of covenant. The oil was a sign that no enemy, no betrayal, and no delay could stop the purpose of God from being fulfilled.
This card's verse is 1 Samuel 16:13:
"Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. [...]"
This oil of anointing points directly to the Anointed One, the Lord Jesus. Christ itself means “The Messiah,” the One chosen and set apart. Just as David was anointed in the midst of his brethren, Jesus was anointed by the Father in the sight of the world, declared at the Jordan River, empowered by the Spirit, and appointed as the eternal King who will reign over all creation.

The Eternal Reign of the Anointed One
Today, Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father, crowned with glory and honor, holding all authority in heaven and on earth. His reign is not pending, it is present. Yet there is a day coming when He will step from His throne in heaven and set His feet on the Mount of Olives. Just as David took his rightful place in Jerusalem, Jesus will take His rightful place over the nations. The oil poured on David’s head is fulfilled in the oil of the Spirit upon the Son of God, flowing without measure.
This same Spirit, the Spirit of the Anointed One, has been poured out upon us. We are kings and priests in His kingdom, carrying the fragrance of the anointing wherever we go. The oil speaks of protection, empowerment, consecration, and joy. It is the mark of God’s ownership, the seal of His covenant, and the supply of His strength.
Believer, you are anointed in Christ. The same Spirit that rested on David, the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, rests on you. Your life is covered in divine favor. Your steps are ordered. Your calling is secure. Walk with boldness, because the oil is on you, the King is in you, and His reign is forever.
