Every Tree, Every Choice, Every Consequence
Pleasant Discovery is a Rare Event from the Alpha Age, costing 1 faith. When played, you draw three verses, but must Forsake two of them, exiling them from your hand. This powerful card offers a glimpse of great potential, while reminding you that not all gifts can be held at once.
The Garden’s Trees, A Choice to Love
In the garden of Eden, God planted every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, and in the midst, two special trees: the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. These weren’t placed as traps, but as part of the gift of freedom. God made mankind in His image, with the dignity to choose, to worship Him freely or to walk away. Without a choice, love wouldn't be real; we would be prisoners, not free people called to grace.
This card's verse is Genesis 2:9:
"And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil."
When Adam and Eve chose to eat from the tree of knowledge, they were using their God-given freedom to follow their own way. And that path led to death, shame, and fear. The Lord removed them from the garden, not in wrath, but in mercy, “lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever” – Genesis 3:22. Living forever in a fallen state was never His plan. He had something better prepared.
From that moment, the tree of life was guarded, and the world awaited the day God would open the way again, this time through Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

The Cross, A Tree of Life Restored
Jesus came and made a new tree the center of the story. At the cross, wood lifted high, He offered Himself as the true fruit. His body was broken, His blood was poured out. “This is my body, which is broken for you… This cup is the new testament in my blood…” – 1 Corinthians 11:24-25. At the cross, grace blooms, and the fruit of life is offered not to the perfect, but to the believing.
The tree of life is no longer guarded by cherubim. It is wide open in Christ, and everyone who believes in Him takes part of this eternal life. The fruit that once grew in Eden now lives in us by the Spirit, and it will be seen again, bearing twelve kinds of fruit in the New Jerusalem.
Believer, you have tasted the goodness of God. You are no longer cast out, you are drawn in. Live in that grace, and invite others to find the pleasant discovery that never fades: Jesus Christ, the fruit of eternal life.
