Heeding the Call, Guarding the Chosen

Samuel, Last Judge is a Common Prophet Being from the Israel Age, costing 2 faith with 1 strength and 1 hope. Its Prophecy ability triggers when created, granting Anointing to another target friendly Being, meaning it ignores the next damage dealt to it. This makes Samuel an ideal guardian for your key units, offering protection while reinforcing your board.

The Last Judge of Israel

Samuel stood in a unique place in Israel’s history. He was the final judge before the monarchy began, bridging the era of the judges to the reign of kings. Born in answer to Hannah’s prayer, Samuel was dedicated to the service of God from childhood, hearing His voice in the tabernacle and delivering His word with boldness and clarity. When Israel cried for a king to be like the other nations, it was Samuel who warned them what it would mean. He spoke the truth without fear, because he understood that the King they truly needed was God Himself.

Israel wanted a visible ruler. They longed for someone to lead their armies, govern their cities, and bring unity to their tribes. Samuel knew that God had already done this perfectly. Still, he obeyed the word of the Lord and anointed Saul, marking the beginning of the kingship in Israel. This act of anointing was not just political, it was deeply prophetic, pointing forward to the true Anointed One, the Messiah who would reign forever.

This card's verse is 1 Samuel 8:9:

"Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them."

In Samuel’s hands, the anointing oil symbolized divine choice and empowerment. It was God Himself who selected and equipped His servant for the task. When Samuel poured oil on Saul’s head, he was enacting a heavenly reality: that leadership and authority come from the hand of the Lord. This pattern would continue through David, Solomon, and ultimately reach its fullness in Jesus Christ.

The anointing of kings in Israel foreshadowed the perfect kingship of Jesus. Where earthly rulers faltered, Christ reigns in righteousness. Samuel’s role as prophet, priest, and judge mirrors the complete ministry of Jesus, who perfectly fulfills all three offices. Just as Samuel set apart leaders for the good of the people, Jesus sets apart His followers for the work of the Kingdom.

The prophet’s obedience also teaches us the importance of aligning our actions with God’s voice. Samuel did not move on his own ideas, he waited for the Lord’s direction. This same principle governs our walk in Christ today. "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way" - Psalm 37:23. Our confidence rests in knowing we are following the will of the King of kings.

Believer, you walk in the anointing of the Spirit because you belong to the Anointed One. Your calling is sealed in His blood, your purpose established in His resurrection. You are part of a royal priesthood, chosen and empowered to represent His Kingdom. Every step you take is ordered by Him, every battle you face is covered by His authority, and every victory you claim is for the glory of your King.
