First to Fly, First to Search
Swift Raven is a Common Fowl Being from the Alpha Age, costing 2 faith, with 2 strength and 2 hope. A balanced unit with no abilities, this card captures a key moment in Scripture, the first bird sent from the ark, released into a world still bearing the weight of judgment.
To and Fro, The Raven Over the Earth
When the floodwaters covered the earth, Noah released a raven, and it went out, flying to and fro, searching for rest. It never returned, finding no place to land on a world covered in judgment. This moment paints a haunting image, of something restless, unclean, and ever-moving. The raven became a sign of what it meant to wander through a world condemned.
In the book of Job, Satan presents himself before the Lord, and when asked where he has been, he answers, “From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it” – Job 1:7. This language echoes the raven’s path, a tireless search for the weak, the broken, and the vulnerable. He is called “the accuser of our brethren” – Revelation 12:10, standing as a lawyer pointing at every failing and sin.
This card's verse is Genesis 8:7:
"And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth."
But the raven has no home. He has no perch on grace. Because grace is not earned, it's given. The moment judgment landed on Jesus at the cross, it lifted from those who believe. Sin was judged, death was broken, and the accuser lost his case. Now, there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus.

The Accuser Silenced, The Power of the Blood
The enemy may still roam, but his accusations hold no weight. Every time he points a finger, we point to the cross. Every charge he brings is covered by the blood of the Lamb, the perfect and eternal offering. “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony” – Revelation 12:11. What testimony? That Jesus finished the work.
But if a believer turns back to law, back to the measure of personal efforts and performance, he gives power back to sin. “The strength of sin is the law” – 1 Corinthians 15:56. The law reveals sin, and sin brings death. But “Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth” – Romans 10:4. In Christ, we are no longer under law, but under grace, and grace reigns through righteousness unto eternal life.
Believer, don’t look down in shame or fear when the raven circles overhead. Lift your eyes to Jesus. You are in Him. He is your ark, your covering, your refuge. The enemy has no more case. Walk in the freedom of grace, and let His Spirit remind you daily, you are completely forgiven, fully accepted, and eternally loved.
