The Bite That Brought Death

Tempting Fruit is an Uncommon Event from the Alpha Age, costing 1 faith and dealing 2 damage to a target opponent. Simple and sharp, this card embodies the quiet yet catastrophic weight of one small act of disobedience.

One Law, One Fall, One Need for Grace

In the very beginning, there was only one command: “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it…” – Genesis 2:17. Just one. And yet, even with one law, sin entered. Eve saw the fruit, saw that it was pleasant, and took. Adam followed. “She took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband…” – Genesis 3:6.

This single act cracked the world open. Sin came, and with it, death. “The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law” – 1 Corinthians 15:56. It wasn’t just disobedience, it was the revelation that man could not save himself. Even with one rule, we fell. That fruit wasn’t just tempting; it was deadly. It revealed the heart, and it revealed our need for a Savior.

This card's verse is Genesis 3:6:

"[...] she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat."

Every tree planted since then, every law given afterward, only multiplied the evidence: we can’t fulfill it. The law shows us what’s good, but it can’t make us good. It shows us righteousness, but it doesn’t give us the power to live it.

Christ Fulfilled the Law, Grace Reigns Now

That’s why Jesus came. “God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law” – Galatians 4:4–5. He kept it perfectly. Never sinned. Never stumbled. Then He gave that perfect righteousness to all who believe in Him, not by their own efforts, but by grace through faith.

In Christ, we’re dead to the law, and alive to God. “But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law” – Galatians 5:18. When you trust in Jesus, you're not holding fruit from a forbidden tree, you’re eating from the tree of life, and that fruit is eternal.

Believer, don’t go back to law. Don’t measure your worth by commandments. Christ has fulfilled it all. Walk in grace. Walk in freedom. Walk in the Spirit. The fruit of the law brings death. But the fruit of the Spirit? “Love, joy, peace…” – Galatians 5:22. That’s your inheritance.
