The Roar That Weakens
Young Lion is an Uncommon Beast from the Israel Age, costing 3 faith with 2 strength and 2 hope. When created, its Prophecy ability triggers to set the strength of a target enemy being to 1. Perfect for Beast archetypes, tempo-based trades, and midrange pressure.
The Roar in the Vineyard
Samson was walking toward Timnath, the path winding through the vineyards, when a young lion sprang upon him. The sudden roar broke the calm, but the Spirit of God came mightily upon Samson, and with nothing in his hands, he tore the lion apart as easily as a man would split a piece of cloth. This was no random encounter. God was setting the stage for a revelation. In the vineyard, a lion rose in defiance, yet in that same vineyard, God’s strength proved greater.
The lion in Scripture often carries a double image, at times representing the power and majesty of God, and at other times the strength of an enemy seeking to devour. In this moment, the young lion stood as an obstacle in Samson’s way, a living picture of the forces that rise against the anointed. Yet, by the Spirit, the lion’s strength melted into weakness. The roar was silenced, and the path forward remained open.
This card's verse is Judges 14:5:
"Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him."
Later, Samson would return to the lion’s carcass and find honey inside. Out of what once threatened him came sweetness and sustenance. This is the mystery of God’s working, He turns battles into blessings, struggles into strength. The lion’s roar became a testimony, and the sweetness from the carcass became a riddle to challenge others. What began as a moment of confrontation turned into a picture of divine victory.

The Greater Lion Who Triumphs
Samson’s lion points forward to Jesus Christ, the true Lion of the tribe of Judah. He too faced the adversary in the wilderness and silenced his roar with the power of the Word. He too confronted sin, death, and the grave, and stripped them of their strength. As Samson found sweetness in the place of struggle, so Jesus brought life and peace from the place of death. Out of the grave came the resurrection, and out of His suffering came eternal salvation for all who believe.
The Scripture says, "The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing" - Psalm 34:10. Every roar that rises against the people of God is answered by the greater roar of their King. The Spirit that came upon Samson is the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead and now dwells within every believer, empowering them to overcome every enemy.
Believer, you walk in that same anointing. The roar of the enemy cannot strip you of your hope. The Spirit of the living God rests upon you, making you bold, steadfast, and strong. Every battle becomes an opportunity for God’s sweetness to flow into your life. Every challenge turns into a testimony of grace. You are in Christ, the victorious Lion, and His strength is your strength, His victory your inheritance, His life your life forever.
Strategic Use In Gameplay
Young Lion shines in decks that value disruption and board presence. Its Prophecy effect doesn’t deal damage or exile, but softens enemy threats, enabling your other Beings to take more favorable trades. As part of a midrange or Beast-oriented deck, it offers tempo control and reactive plays, especially against high-strength targets.
Synergies and Plays:
Disarm Enemy Threats: Lowering an enemy being’s strength to 1 often neutralizes its offensive potential and sets it up for easy removal or a favorable challenge.
Beast Synergy: Integrates seamlessly with other Beast cards that scale from board presence, protection mechanics, or Prophecy triggers.
Midrange Utility: With modest stats and a strong entrance effect, Young Lion adds value at a key stage of the game, offering both threat mitigation and combat readiness.
