Genesis Set Card 168/250
First Shall Be Last is an Uncommon Event from the Church Age, costing 4 Faith. It has Discern, letting you choose between two outcomes: deal 5 Damage to Target undamaged Being, or Restore 5 Hope to Target damaged Being.
The Bible Story Behind First Shall Be Last
Jesus spoke these words after a rich young ruler walked away sorrowful because he valued his possessions more than following the Lord. Peter then reminded Jesus that the disciples had left everything to follow Him and asked what they would receive. The question revealed how easily sacrifice can become another reason for comparing ourselves with others or expecting greater honor from God.
Jesus promised that the apostles would have a special place in His coming kingdom and that everyone who had forsaken earthly relationships or possessions for His name would receive abundantly. Yet He immediately warned that many who appeared first would become last, while many considered last would become first. First Shall Be Last therefore presents God overturning the rankings created by wealth, reputation, position, and human expectation.
Matthew 19:30 — “But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.”

Jesus followed this statement with the parable of laborers who entered a vineyard at different hours but received the same payment from its generous owner. The lesson didn't teach that faithfulness is meaningless, but that God remains free to distribute His goodness according to grace rather than according to human pride, comparison, or claims of personal deserving.
Jesus Christ is the greatest example of divine reversal. The eternal Son possessed glory above all creation, yet He humbled Himself, took the form of a servant, and submitted to death upon the cross. The One who was first became as the lowest so that guilty sinners could be raised, accepted, and seated with Him through grace.
The apostolic letters reveal that no member of the church can boast in ancestry, wealth, wisdom, strength, or religious achievement. Jew and Gentile are saved by the same blood, indwelt by the same Spirit, and joined to one body. God often chooses what the world considers weak and insignificant so that the glory of salvation belongs entirely to Jesus Christ.

Undamaged Being removal: The Damage option deals 5 Damage to Target undamaged Being.
Damaged Being recovery: The Restore option Restores 5 Hope to Target damaged Being.

Questions and Answers
Q: Why can the same Being never qualify for both options at the same moment?
A: One option requires an undamaged Being, while the other requires a damaged Being. Those conditions are mutually exclusive.
Q: Can I use the Damage option on an undamaged Friendly Being?
A: Yes. The card says Target undamaged Being, not Enemy Being, although dealing 5 Damage to your own Being would usually require a strong strategic reason.
Q: What happens if I use the Restore option on a damaged Peter, Jewish Apostle and fully heal him?
A: Peter survives with less Damage, but if he becomes undamaged, Patience turns off and he loses Protect and Abundance.
Q: What if I use the Damage option against Jesus, Son Of God while Eternal is active?
A: Jesus is a legal undamaged Target if no other restriction prevents it, but Eternal prevents the 5 Damage.
Q: Does Pray increase the Damage option without changing the Restore option?
A: Yes. Pray increases Event Damage, while the 5 Hope Restoration stays the same.
