Genesis Set Card 49/250

Behemoth, Chief Work is an Uncommon Beast Being from the Elder Age, costing 7 Faith with 8 Strength, 5 Hope, 5 Reach, and 3 Move. Its Prophecy Ability Gives Fear to Target Enemy Being.

The Bible Story Behind Behemoth, Chief Work

Among the greatest creatures of the ancient earth was Behemoth, a massive beast whose strength was displayed throughout his entire frame. He ate grass like an ox, rested beneath the shady trees, and stood without fear when the river rose around him. His enormous body revealed the power and wisdom of the God who formed him.

Behemoth belongs to God's answer to Job, where the creature's strength exposes the limits of human mastery. Within the Elder Age, he displays the majesty of creation and the difference between its strongest creature and the Creator Himself. His greatness brings Job's attention back to the Lord whose authority reaches beyond every limit of human strength.

Job 40:19 says: "He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him."

Behemoth was chief among the works of God, yet he was still only a created being. No man could master him, but the Creator who made him could approach him without fear and bring him beneath judgment. Behemoth, Chief Work therefore reveals that the strongest creature remains completely subject to the authority of its Creator.

Jesus Christ is the Creator of Behemoth and of every other creature in heaven and earth. All things were created by Him, and for Him, and by Him all things consist. The power displayed in Behemoth was only a small reflection of the immeasurable strength of the eternal Son of God.

Yet the Creator entered His own creation and humbled Himself to death. No creature or man could overpower Him; Jesus willingly laid down His life to bear our sins. He fulfilled the law, endured its curse, and rose again in victory. The mighty God became our suffering Saviour so that the weak and guilty could receive everlasting life by grace.

Questions and Answers

Q: Can Behemoth Fear a Being with Darkness before that Being has Interacted?

A: No. Its Prophecy Ability Targets the Enemy Being, so Darkness can make that Being an illegal Target.

Q: Does Fear stop the affected Being from Blocking?

A: No. Fear prevents Interaction, meaning Move and Challenge. A Feared Being remains on the Storyline and can still Block normally.

Q: If the Feared Being has an ongoing passive Ability, does Fear turn that Ability off?

A: No. Fear prevents Interaction through the end of the Being's Owner's next Turn; it doesn't Cancel passive or triggered Abilities. It also doesn't prevent Blocking. Humble can Cancel Abilities if it legally affects the Being.

Q: Can the Feared Being still be Targeted by other Abilities while it can't Interact?

A: Yes, unless another rule such as Darkness prevents that Targeting.

Q: Why is Behemoth's 5 Reach especially threatening after its Fear Prophecy?

A: Fear can prevent an important Enemy Being from repositioning or Challenging, while Behemoth's very high Reach lets it threaten much of the opposing Storyline on later Turns.
