The Bible Story Behind Leviathan, Sea Serpent
Within the depths of the ancient waters moved Leviathan, the mighty sea serpent. His strength, armor, and fearsome appearance placed him far beyond ordinary men's control. Yet however dreadful he appeared, Leviathan remained a creature formed by God and completely subject to the authority of the Lord who made the sea.
Leviathan belongs to the Elder Age as a mighty created sea creature, and his later role carries the conflict into the prophetic story. Satan will possess that creature during the final rebellion before Christ's return. The spirit and the animal remain distinct: the devil will be bound, while the Lord will destroy the physical Leviathan. The Bible announces the appointed punishment and the authority of the sword that will accomplish it.
Isaiah 27:1 says: "In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea."
The verse doesn't praise Leviathan's strength; it announces his destruction. The piercing serpent may move through the sea with great power, but the sword of the Lord is greater. Leviathan, Sea Serpent therefore declares that God has appointed an end for every crooked power that opposes His righteousness and corrupts His creation.
From the garden of Eden, God promised that the seed of the woman would bruise the serpent's head. Jesus Christ fulfilled that promise through His death and resurrection. At the cross, the serpent bruised His heel, but through that very death the Son of God destroyed the authority of the devil and spoiled principalities and powers.
The law revealed mankind's sin and gave the accuser a true record of our guilt, but Jesus answered every charge through His blood. He fulfilled the law, bore its curse, and rose again so that the church could stand complete in Him. We aren't under condemnation, but under the grace and righteousness of the victorious Christ.

Leviathan, Sea Serpent is a fast and dangerous late-Game Dragon. Zeal lets it Challenge immediately, while Anointing lets it ignore the first Damage it would take. Even though it has only 2 Hope, Anointing helps protect it from the first Damage, and its 6 Move gives it excellent positioning flexibility.

Immediate Challenge: Zeal lets Leviathan Challenge the Turn it's Created.
Anointing Protection: Anointing helps Leviathan survive its first Damage while on the Storyline.

Q: If Leviathan Challenges immediately with Zeal and the Enemy Being would deal 6 Damage back, what happens?
A: Challenge Damage is simultaneous, but Leviathan's unused Anointing ignores the first Damage it would take. It can therefore survive that Damage instance despite having only 2 Printed Hope.
Q: What if Leviathan is hit by Judging Crow for 1 Damage before it makes its first Challenge?
A: Anointing can ignore Judging Crow's Damage and becomes used. Leviathan will no longer have that Anointing available to protect it during the later Challenge.
Q: Does Anointing refresh at the beginning of Leviathan's next Turn?
A: No. Once Anointing has ignored its first Damage instance, it's used and doesn't automatically refresh.
Q: Can Leviathan Move and then use Zeal to Challenge during the Turn it's Created?
A: No. Zeal allows an immediate Challenge, not an immediate Move followed by a Challenge.
Q: What happens if Leviathan receives Anointing again after its original Anointing has already been used?
A: The newly granted Anointing can protect it from another first Damage instance. Anointing doesn't stack while unused, but Gaining it again after the previous one has been spent can provide protection again.
