Declared Unclean is an Uncommon Event from the Torah Age, costing 2 Faith. It Gives Target Friendly Being Unclean this Turn only.

The Bible Story Behind Declared Unclean

Under the law given through Moses, certain marks in the skin had to be brought before a priest for examination. The priest compared what he saw with the commands recorded in Leviticus and determined whether the person was clean or unclean. His judgment wasn't based upon sympathy, appearance, or personal preference, but upon the standard God had established.

If the mark met the signs of leprosy described in the law, the priest pronounced the person unclean. That declaration separated the affected Israelite from the camp and from ordinary fellowship until cleansing could be confirmed. Declared Unclean therefore presents the law identifying corruption and openly declaring the separation it produced.

Leviticus 13:3 — “[...] and the priest shall look on him, and pronounce him unclean.”

The priest could recognize and pronounce the condition, but he couldn't heal it by his declaration. The law accurately exposed what was present and required the proper response, yet it provided no power within the diseased person to make the flesh whole. The sentence revealed the need for cleansing that only God could ultimately provide.

When Jesus Christ walked among Israel, lepers came to Him for what the law and its priests couldn't give. Jesus didn't merely examine their condition and repeat the sentence against them. He touched the unclean, exercised divine authority, and made diseased bodies whole without becoming defiled Himself.

These healings revealed the greater cleansing Jesus came to accomplish through the cross. The law pronounced every sinner guilty, but Christ bore that guilt in His own body and shed His blood to wash away sin. Our Great High priest didn't lower God's standard; He satisfied it completely and gave His own righteousness to everyone who believes.

Declared Unclean Bible TCG Strategy

Declared Unclean is a tactical Event that can turn one of your Friendly Beings into a deadly threat for the Turn. A Being with Unclean Exiles Beings damaged by it, allowing even a smaller Friendly Being to trade into something much larger if it deals Damage. Because the Unclean effect lasts this Turn only, you want to use Declared Unclean when that Friendly Being is Ready to Challenge or deal Damage.

Synergies

  • Deadly Challenge: Give Unclean to a Friendly Being before it Challenges an Enemy Being.

  • Small-to-large trade: A small Being with Unclean can Exile a much larger Being if it damages it.

  • Event synergy: Declared Unclean works well in Decks that care about Events being Played.

Questions and Answers

Q: What happens if I give Unclean to Caleb, Receiving Land on the Turn he is Created?

A: Caleb already has Zeal, so he can Challenge immediately. If he successfully Damages an Enemy Being, Unclean Exiles that Being regardless of how much Current Hope it has left.

Q: Is there any benefit to Playing Declared Unclean on Falling Frog?

A: Normally very little, because Falling Frog already has Unclean. Giving a Being the same Keyword again doesn't create an additional Unclean effect.

Q: What happens if my Unclean Being Challenges a Being with unused Anointing?

A: If Anointing ignores the Damage, the opposing Being wasn't damaged, so Unclean doesn't Exile it from that Damage instance.

Q: What about an Eternal Being?

A: Eternal prevents the Damage completely, so Unclean doesn't Exile that Being either.

Q: What happens if my Being with Unclean is Humbled before it deals Damage?

A: The granted Unclean Ability is canceled. It can still deal normal Challenge Damage, but that Damage no longer carries the Unclean effect.
