The Bible Story Behind Eve, Mother Of All
After judgment had been pronounced in Eden, Adam called his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all living. Death had entered through their transgression, yet Adam gave her a name connected with life. Mankind would continue through her, and the earth would be filled with the generations that came from the first man and woman.
Her name also stood beside the promise God had just spoken concerning the seed of the woman. The serpent had brought deception and death into the garden, but a child would one day come through the woman and bruise his head. Eve, Mother Of All therefore represents life continuing beneath the promise of a coming Deliverer.
Genesis 3:20 says: "And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living."
Every person born into the world would trace his natural life back through Eve. Yet those generations would also inherit the fallen condition brought through Adam, including sin, sorrow, and death. Her name declared that life would continue, but it also prepared the way for the promised seed who alone could deliver mankind from the power of death.
In the fullness of the time, Jesus Christ was made of a woman and entered the world as the promised seed. He was truly man, yet He was conceived by the Holy Ghost and born without sin. Through His death and resurrection, the seed of the woman crushed the serpent and opened the way to everlasting life.
Natural life came through Eve, but eternal life comes through Jesus Christ. Everyone born from Adam enters a dying creation, while everyone who believes the Gospel is born again and joined to the risen Lord. The church isn't made alive through the law or human descent, but through God's grace and the life of the last Adam.
