Genesis Set Card 43/250

Terrible Reckoning is a Common Event from the Elder Age, costing 4 Faith. It deals 3 Damage to two Target Enemy Beings with the lowest Hope.

The Bible Story Behind Terrible Reckoning

After Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden tree, they hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. The place that had once been filled with peace and fellowship now became a place of fear. Sin had changed their relationship with God, and they could no longer stand before Him with an innocent conscience.

Their hiding revealed the terrible condition sin had produced. Adam and Eve knew they were naked, attempted to cover themselves with fig leaves, and withdrew from the One who had given them life. Yet no tree could conceal them from God, and no covering made by their own hands could remove the guilt that now stood between mankind and the Creator.

Genesis 3:8 says: "And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden."

The voice that had once brought comfort now caused them to flee because their consciences had been awakened to judgment. God already knew where they were and what they had done, but He called them forward to answer for their disobedience. Terrible Reckoning reveals that sin can't remain hidden when mankind stands before God's perfect knowledge and holiness.

Adam hid when the Lord approached, but Jesus willingly stepped forward when the hour of judgment came. He had no sin of His own to confess, and no guilt from which to hide, yet the innocent Son of God stood in the place of the guilty. At the cross, He bore our sins and endured the condemnation we deserved.

Human righteousness is no better than the fig leaves sewn together in Eden. The law exposes our guilt but can't provide a sufficient covering before God. Jesus fulfilled the law, shed His blood, and rose again so that everyone who believes might be clothed with His righteousness and accepted entirely by grace.

Terrible Reckoning Bible TCG Strategy

Terrible Reckoning is a removal Event that punishes fragile Enemy Beings. By Targeting two Enemy Beings with the lowest Hope, it can clear small threats, weaken support Beings, or remove damaged Beings from the Storyline. This card is especially useful against wide Storylines where your Opponent has several low-Hope Beings in play.

Synergies

  • Anti-Aggro Removal: Terrible Reckoning is strong against Decks that flood the Storyline with smaller Beings.

  • Two-Target Damage: Dealing 3 Damage to two Enemy Beings can create a major tempo swing.

  • Pray Synergy: Since Terrible Reckoning is an Event that deals Damage, Beings with Pray can increase its Damage.

Questions and Answers

Q: How are the two lowest-Hope Targets chosen?

A: First exclude Enemy Beings that can't legally be Targeted, including those with active Darkness. Compare the remaining Beings' Current Hope, including modifiers and Damage, and select two distinct Beings with the lowest values. With values 1, 3, and 5, select 1 and 3; with 1, 1, and 3, select both 1s. Choose among tied candidates when necessary.

Q: What if there is only one legal Enemy Being?

A: Select that Being and deal 3 Damage to it once. Do as much as possible; don't select it twice. With no legal Target, the Damage step does nothing, although you may still Play and pay for the Event.

Q: Does one Target take Damage before the other?

A: No. Both Damage amounts are applied at the same time, followed by a Checkpoint. Resulting triggered Abilities enter the Queue and resolve individually after the Event finishes.

Q: How do Pray, Eternal, and Anointing affect this Damage?

A: Pray +2 increases each Damage amount from 3 to 5. Apply prevention separately to each Target: Eternal prevents the Damage without using Anointing; otherwise unused Anointing prevents that whole instance.

Q: What happens if both Targets are Exiled while Innocent Firstling is on my Storyline?

A: An active Firstling records one trigger for each Exile. If the same Firstling remains when both triggers resolve, it receives +2 Strength and +2 Hope total. The queued bonuses can't rescue it from an earlier check that Exiles it.
