Genesis Set Card 60/250

Famished Edom is an Uncommon Event from the Hebrew Age, costing 2 Faith. It deals 2 Damage to Target Enemy and Fears it if it's a Being.

The Bible Story Behind Famished Edom

Esau returned from the field faint and hungry, while Jacob had prepared pottage. Rather than waiting for food or considering the value of what belonged to him as the firstborn, Esau demanded the red stew before him. His appetite became more important than his inheritance, and a moment of physical hunger overcame his regard for the promises connected with his birthright.

The birthright carried a valued place within the household, and Esau treated it as worth less than immediate relief from hunger. Hebrews 12 later calls him profane for selling it. His earthly birthright and the believer's eternal salvation shouldn't be treated as interchangeable possessions; the passage exposes his contempt for what he had received.

Genesis 25:30 — “And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.”

Esau believed his present hunger mattered more than anything promised for the future. After eating, he rose and went his way, showing little concern for what he had surrendered. Scripture concludes that Esau despised his birthright, warning that the desires of the flesh can make sacred things appear worthless when the heart is ruled by the present moment.

Jesus Christ entered the world as the promised seed and rightful Heir of all things. When He was hungry in the wilderness, the devil tempted Him to satisfy His flesh apart from the will of His Father. Unlike Esau, Jesus refused to exchange obedience for bread, declaring that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from God.

Christ remained obedient to death and secured the inheritance that fallen mankind could never earn. He fulfilled the law, bore its curse upon the cross, and rose again as the firstborn from the dead. The church receives every spiritual blessing through Him, not by natural birthright or works, but by grace through faith in the true Heir.

Famished Edom Bible TCG Strategy

Famished Edom combines Damage and control in one Event. It can Damage an Opponent directly, or Damage an Enemy Being and Give that Being Fear, stopping it from Interacting through the end of its Owner's next Turn. This is especially strong against Enemy Beings because the Damage can help Exile them, while Fear can stop them from Moving or Challenging if they survive.

Damage and Fear are connected: Deal the Damage, apply Fear if the Target is a Being, then check for Exile. Fear lasts through the end of that Being's Owner's next Turn and doesn't prevent Blocking.

Synergies

  • Damage And Control: Famished Edom can weaken an Enemy Being while also stopping it from Interacting.

  • Fear Pressure: Fear can shut down an important Enemy Being during a key Turn.

  • Pray Synergy: Since Famished Edom is an Event that deals Damage, Beings with Pray can increase its Damage.

Questions and Answers

Q: If Famished Edom Targets my Opponent, what does "Fear it if it's a Being" do?

A: Nothing. A Player isn't a Being, so the Opponent takes the Damage but isn't Feared.

Q: If Sarah's Pray +2 is active and Famished Edom Targets my Opponent, what happens?

A: It deals 4 Damage instead of 2. Because your Opponent takes 4 Damage, you Gain 4 Bible Points.

Q: If Famished Edom's Damage Exiles an Enemy Being, does Fear matter?

A: Apply Fear after the Damage but before the Checkpoint because both are in the same connected sentence. The check then Exiles the Being if its Current Hope is 0 or less. Fear doesn't follow the card into Exile or apply to a later newly Created Being.

Q: Can Famished Edom Target a Darkness Being before it Interacts?

A: No. When you choose the Being rather than the Opponent, the Ability Targets that Being, so Darkness can protect it.

Q: If the Enemy Being survives and becomes Feared, can it still Block?

A: Yes. Fear prevents Move and Challenge, but it doesn't stop Blocking.
