Genesis Set Card 59/250

Adder In The Path is an Uncommon Dragon Being from the Hebrew Age, costing 2 Faith with 2 Strength, 3 Hope, 1 Reach, and 0 Move. Whenever you Play an Event, it deals 1 Damage to all Beings.

The Bible Story Behind Adder In The Path

As Jacob spoke prophetically concerning his sons, he compared Dan to a serpent beside the road and an adder hidden in the path. Unlike a beast that attacks openly, the adder waits where it's difficult to see. Its danger lies in surprise, striking suddenly at the vulnerable heel of a passing animal.

The adder bites the heels of the horse, causing both the animal and its rider to fall backward. The creature is small compared with the horse, yet a carefully placed strike can overthrow something far stronger than itself. Adder In The Path therefore represents the power of a subtle attack to interrupt, wound, and bring down an unsuspecting traveler.

Genesis 49:17 — “Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.”

Jacob's words concerned the future character and place of Dan among the tribes of Israel. The image doesn't describe strength displayed openly, but cunning used from a hidden position. It warns that an enemy doesn't need greater strength when deception, surprise, and a well-placed strike can accomplish his purpose.

The adder's attack upon the heel recalls the conflict first announced in Eden. The serpent would bruise the heel of the woman's seed, but that seed would bruise the serpent's head. At the cross, Jesus received the wound of death, yet the suffering of Christ became the means through which the serpent's authority was broken.

The devil worked through betrayal, false accusation, and the cruelty of men to bring Jesus to the cross. What appeared to be the fall of the promised King became His greatest victory. Christ bore our sins, fulfilled the law, and rose again, spoiling principalities and powers and triumphing over them through His sacrifice.

Adder In The Path Bible TCG Strategy

Adder In The Path is a powerful Event-based control Being. Every time you Play an Event, it deals 1 Damage to all Beings on the Storyline, including your own. This can help clear small Beings, weaken the whole Storyline, or set up larger removal Plays. Because it also Damages your own Beings, you need to build and play carefully around it.

Synergies

  • Event Damage Engine: Every Event you Play triggers Adder In The Path and deals 1 Damage to all Beings.

  • Board Control: Adder In The Path can slowly weaken every Being on the Storyline.

  • Damage Synergy: It works well with strategies that benefit from Beings taking Damage or being Exiled.

Questions and Answers

Q: Does Adder deal Damage before or after the Event that triggers it?

A: After the Event finishes resolving and enters Exile. Water Of Life Creates its Fish before Adder's Damage; Burning Bush completes its Damage with applicable Pray before Adder's Damage. Any Checkpoints and earlier Queue items still occur in their normal order.

Q: Does the queued Damage disappear if Adder leaves the Storyline or is Humbled?

A: No. Once recorded, the trigger resolves independently of its source. If Adder loses the Ability before an Event is Played, no new trigger is recorded. Returning and Creating Adder makes a new Being; it doesn't replace the old trigger's source.

Q: Who is the Damage source, and does Pray increase it?

A: Adder is the source of its Ability Damage; its Controller carries out the instruction. Pray increases Event Damage, so it doesn't increase Adder's Damage.

Q: What happens if Adder has Unclean?

A: If Adder still has Unclean when its queued Damage resolves, each Being it actually Damages is marked for Exile at the Checkpoint. If Adder remains but has been Humbled, its Canceled Unclean doesn't apply. If it left, use its last known characteristics before leaving. Prevented Damage doesn't apply Unclean.

Q: Which Beings does Adder affect?

A: All Beings, including itself, Friendly Beings, and Beings with Darkness. Its Damage doesn't Target. Actual Damage can activate Patience and record Damage triggers, including a Jonah trigger from lethal Damage; those triggers wait behind existing Queue items.
