Father's Grief is a Holy Rare Event from the Hebrew Age, costing 7 Faith. It deals 10 Damage to Target Enemy.

The Bible Story Behind Father's Grief

Joseph's brothers dipped his coat in the blood of a goat and brought it to their father without explaining what had happened. When Jacob recognized the coat, he concluded that an evil beast had devoured Joseph. The sons who had sold Joseph into Egypt allowed their father to believe that his beloved son was dead.

Jacob tore his clothes, put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for many days. His sons and daughters tried to comfort him, but he refused because he expected to carry this sorrow to the grave. Yet while Jacob mourned, Joseph was still alive, and God was already guiding him toward authority and glory in Egypt.

Genesis 37:35 — “And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.”

Jacob's grief was sincere, but it rested upon a conclusion that wasn't true. Years later, Joseph would reveal himself, preserve his family through the famine, and be reunited with his father. When Jacob finally learned that Joseph lived, his spirit revived. The son he mourned as lost had been preserved by God and raised up to save them all.

Joseph offers an illustrative parallel with Jesus Christ, who was rejected by His brethren, delivered into the hands of Gentiles, and brought down into death. Unlike Joseph, Jesus truly died upon the cross and was buried. Yet death couldn't hold Him. God raised His beloved Son from the grave and exalted Him as Lord and Christ.

Jacob, whose name was Israel, mourning Joseph while he lived offers a fitting picture of Israel's present separation from the Messiah they haven't recognized. Jesus remains alive and exalted, and God hasn't forgotten His promises to Israel. A day will come when the nation shall recognize the One who was rejected and rejoice in the living Messiah.

Father's Grief Bible TCG Strategy

Father's Grief is a massive single-Target Damage Event. It can deal 10 Damage to an Enemy Being to remove a major threat, or it can deal 10 Damage to an Opponent to create a huge Bible Point swing. Because it Targets Enemy, it's flexible enough to be used as removal or as a finisher.

Synergies

  • Massive Removal: Father's Grief can deal enough Damage to Exile many Enemy Beings.

  • Direct Pressure: If it Targets an Opponent, you Gain Bible Points equal to the Damage that Opponent takes.

  • Pray Synergy: Beings with Pray can increase the Damage from Father's Grief even further.

Questions and Answers

Q: If I Target my Opponent with Father's Grief and have no Pray active, what happens?

A: Your Opponent takes 10 Damage, so you Gain 10 Bible Points.

Q: If Sarah, Leah, and Isaac are all active, what happens instead?

A: Their combined Pray +4 increases Father's Grief to 14 Damage. If your Opponent is the Target, you Gain 14 Bible Points from that Damage.

Q: Can Father's Grief Target a Darkness Being before it Interacts?

A: No. If you choose an Enemy Being, that Being must be a legal Target. Darkness can prevent the Targeting before it Interacts.

Q: Can Eternal save an Enemy Being from Father's Grief?

A: Yes. Eternal prevents Damage, so the Being takes none of the 10 Damage while Eternal remains active.

Q: Can Protect stop Father's Grief from reaching either an Enemy Being or the Opponent?

A: No. Protect only prevents Challenges against adjacent Beings. It doesn't interfere with Father's Grief's Ability Targeting.
