Goliath's Taunts is an Uncommon Event from the Israel Age, costing 2 Faith. It sets all Beings' Hope to 1.

The Bible Story Behind Goliath's Taunts

For forty days, Goliath stepped forward between the armies of Israel and the Philistines. His great height, heavy armor, and enormous weapons filled Saul's soldiers with fear. Rather than immediately attacking, he used repeated threats and public mockery to weaken Israel's courage before the battle even began.

Goliath demanded that Israel send one man to fight him, allowing the outcome of a single contest to decide which nation would serve the other. His challenge was directed beyond Israel's soldiers and king, because he openly defied the armies belonging to the living God. Goliath's Taunts therefore presents an enemy using fear to make God's people forget the power and honor of the LORD.

1 Samuel 17:10 — “And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.”

The giant's voice dominated the valley because Israel judged the conflict by what could be seen. Every soldier compared his own strength with Goliath's and concluded that victory was impossible. David would answer differently, recognizing that the battle belonged to the LORD and that the uncircumcised Philistine had challenged the God of Israel.

David entered the valley as Israel's representative and defeated the enemy no other man was willing to face. This offers an illustrative parallel with Jesus Christ, who came as mankind's greater Champion to confront sin, death, and the devil on behalf of those who were powerless to save themselves.

The cross appeared weak in the eyes of the world, just as David appeared weak beside Goliath. Yet through His death, Jesus bore our sins, fulfilled the law, and destroyed the authority of the enemy. He rose again in victory, and everyone who trusts Him shares in a triumph accomplished entirely by their Representative.

Goliath's Taunts Bible TCG Strategy

Goliath's Taunts is a dangerous Board-changing Event. By setting every Being's Hope to 1, it makes the entire Storyline vulnerable to Damage and Challenges. This can be used to set up Board clears, make large Enemy Beings easier to Exile, or prepare a Turn where small Damage effects become much more powerful.

Synergies

  • Hope reduction: Goliath's Taunts sets all Beings' Hope to 1.

  • Damage setup: After Hope is Set to 1, even small Damage effects can Exile Beings.

  • Board Reset potential: Goliath's Taunts works well with Events that deal Damage to all Enemy Beings or all Beings.

Questions and Answers

Q: What happens to existing Damage when Goliath's Taunts Sets Hope to 1?

A: Remove every affected Being's earlier direct Hope modifiers and all its Damage Counters, then establish the set-to-1 modifier against Printed Hope. Each Being has 1 Hope before external continuous effects.

Q: Does this affect Friendly Beings or Beings with Darkness?

A: Yes. It affects all Beings without Targeting. Both Storylines are affected, including Beings with active Darkness.

Q: Do Eternal and Anointing prevent the set effect?

A: No. Set isn't Damage. Anointing remains unused, and Eternal can still prevent later Damage unless canceled.

Q: Can a Being have more or less than 1 Hope afterward?

A: Yes. External continuous effects still apply. A +2 Hope aura produces 3 Hope; a -1 Hope aura produces 0 Hope and Exile at the Checkpoint. A later direct Hope grant also adds to the set value.

Q: What happens if an affected Being is later Humbled?

A: Humble removes its Set modifier along with its other direct Stat modifiers and Abilities. Since set removed the earlier Damage, a Being with no later Damage or external effects returns to its Printed Hope in full.
