Holofernes' Head is a Rare Event from the Apocrypha, costing 1 Faith. It Places Target Enemy Being as Faith under its Owner's control.

The Bible Story Behind Holofernes' Head

In the book of Judith, Holofernes commands the army of the ruler called Nebuchadnezzar, king of the Assyrians. His siege of Bethulia threatens its water supply and survival. Holofernes' Head depicts the reversal, as Judith returns with evidence of the commander's death.

Judith entered the enemy camp dressed beautifully and gained access to Holofernes under the appearance of offering him assistance. During a private banquet, he became overcome with wine and remained alone within his tent. Judith took his own sword, struck him twice upon the neck, removed his head, and carried it secretly back to Bethulia.

Judith 13:15 says: "So she tooke the head out of the bag, and shewed it, and said vnto them, Behold the head of Olofernes the chiefe captaine of the armie of Assur, and behold the canopy wherein he did lie in his drunkennesse, and the Lord hath smitten him by the hand of a woman."

By displaying the head, Judith gave Israel undeniable proof that the commander who had terrified them was dead. Holofernes had trusted in military strength, intimidation, and his own uncontrolled desires, yet none of these could preserve him when God appointed his fall. The sight that strengthened Bethulia also shattered the confidence of the Assyrian army, turning their expected victory into confusion and defeat.

Judith's deliverance reflects a recurring truth throughout Scripture: God can overthrow a seemingly invincible enemy through means the proud consider weak. Jesus appeared in humility and allowed the powers of this world to crucify Him, but through that very death He defeated sin, condemned the works of the devil, and rose triumphantly from the grave.

The church doesn't overcome her spiritual enemies through violence, deception, or confidence in human power. Believers are saved entirely through the blood of Christ and stand within the victory He has already accomplished. Our enemy's accusation is answered by Christ's righteousness, the dominion of sin is broken through His death, and the fear of death is conquered through His resurrection.

Holofernes' Head Bible TCG Strategy

Holofernes' Head is extremely efficient removal. For only 1 Faith, it can take an Enemy Being off the Storyline regardless of its Strength or Hope. The drawback is that the Being becomes a Faith Verse for its Owner, giving them another resource. However, the Being's Resurrect Ability doesn't trigger because it was Placed as Faith instead of being Exiled.

Synergies

  • Efficient Removal: Holofernes' Head can remove a dangerous Being without needing to deal enough Damage to overcome its Hope.

  • Resurrect Prevention: Placing a Being as Faith avoids Abilities that would normally trigger when that Being is Exiled.

  • Faith Disruption: Once the Being becomes Faith, other effects can Return or Exile it from the Faith Area.

Questions and Answers

Q: What happens if Holofernes' Head removes Good Shepherd?

A: Good Shepherd becomes a Faith Verse rather than being Exiled, so its Resurrect Ability never triggers and the other Friendly Beings receive no +2 Strength and +2 Hope.

Q: Can Holofernes' Head remove Jesus, Son Of God despite Eternal?

A: Yes, if Jesus is a legal Target. Eternal prevents Damage, and Holofernes' Head doesn't deal any Damage.

Q: Does the Being's Owner gain access to that Being's Age as Faith?

A: Yes. The Being becomes a normal Faith Verse and keeps its Age, which is the resource benefit given to its Owner.

Q: Can Day Of Judgment later Exile that converted Being from the Faith Area?

A: Yes. Once it's Faith, Day Of Judgment can permanently remove that resource from the Opponent's Faith Area.

Q: What happens if Holofernes' Head Targets a Token?

A: The Token leaves the Storyline and returns to the Out Of Game Zone instead of remaining as a Faith Verse.
