John, Water Baptism is a Common Prophet Being from the Gospel Age, costing 4 Faith with 2 Strength, 4 Hope, 4 Reach, and 3 Move. He has Abundance, allowing him to Challenge twice.

The Bible Story Behind John, Water Baptism

John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness of Judaea preaching repentance because the kingdom of heaven was at hand. His clothing, manner of life, and fearless message recalled Israel's prophets. God appointed him to prepare the nation for the arrival of its promised Messiah, giving him the role Isaiah had described as a voice crying in the wilderness.

People came from Jerusalem and the surrounding regions, confessed their sins, and were baptized by John in the Jordan river. His baptism expressed repentance and readiness to receive the coming King, but John continually directed attention away from himself. John, Water Baptism therefore presents the appointed forerunner preparing a path for Someone infinitely greater than he was.

Matthew 3:3 — “For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.”

John fulfilled Isaiah's prophecy by calling Israel to turn from sin and recognize the Lord standing among them. He openly identified Jesus as the Lamb of God and declared that Christ must increase while he must decrease. John's ministry wasn't the destination; it was the divinely appointed road sign directing Israel to Jesus Christ.

John baptized with water, but he announced that Jesus possessed a greater authority and would baptize with the Holy Ghost. Water could publicly identify a repentant person, but it couldn't remove guilt, create spiritual life, or permanently unite anyone to God. Only Christ could accomplish the inward cleansing and new life toward which John's ministry pointed.

Jesus fulfilled the law, bore our sins upon the cross, was buried, and rose again the third day. Everyone who believes the gospel is baptized by the Holy Spirit into the one body of Christ and sealed to the day of redemption. The church isn't saved through John's baptism, but through faith in the blood and finished work of the Savior whom John proclaimed.

John, Water Baptism Bible TCG Strategy

John, Water Baptism is a steady Challenge-focused Being. Abundance lets him Challenge twice, making him useful for controlling Enemy Beings, pressuring the Opponent, or getting more value from Strength buffs. With 4 Hope, John can also survive more Damage than many smaller Beings, giving him a better chance to use Abundance across multiple Turns.

Synergies

  • Double Challenge: Abundance allows John to Challenge twice.

  • Strength buffs: Increasing John's Strength makes both Challenges more threatening.

  • Temporary Strength: Living Waters can Give John, Water Baptism extra Strength for the Turn. If it can make both Abundance Challenges, that bonus increases the Damage of each one.

Questions and Answers

Q: Why is Oil Anointing especially useful on John before his first Challenge?

A: John may need to survive his first Challenge to use Abundance for a second one. Anointing can ignore the first Damage he would take and help preserve that second Challenge.

Q: If John's Anointing is used in the first Challenge, does it also protect him during the second?

A: No. Once Anointing has ignored the first Damage instance, it's used.

Q: What happens if John is Exiled during his first Challenge?

A: He leaves the Storyline and can't make his second Challenge.

Q: What if Breaking Bread gives John +3 Strength and +3 Hope?

A: Both Challenges benefit from his increased Stats, making him a 5-Strength, 7-Hope threat before other effects.

Q: Can John Challenge an Enemy Being first and then directly Challenge the Opponent with his second Challenge?

A: Yes, if he survives the first Challenge and the Opponent is a legal direct Challenge Target when the second Challenge is declared.
