Nicodemus, Born Again is an Uncommon Chief Being from the Gospel Age, costing 4 Faith with 3 Strength, 2 Hope, 1 Reach, and 4 Move. Whenever a Being is Restored, Nicodemus gains +1 Strength and +1 Hope.

The Bible Story Behind Nicodemus, Born Again

Nicodemus was a Pharisee, a ruler of the Jews, and a respected teacher of Israel. He possessed extensive knowledge of the law and Israel's religious traditions, yet he came to Jesus by night seeking answers. His position, learning, and outward obedience couldn't give him the spiritual life required to enter God's kingdom.

Nicodemus acknowledged that the miracles of Jesus proved God was with Him, but Christ immediately directed the conversation beyond signs and religious knowledge. A person couldn't enter the kingdom by improving the natural life received from Adam. Nicodemus, Born Again therefore presents a religious ruler learning that salvation requires an entirely new birth from God.

John 3:3 — “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Nicodemus first understood Jesus as speaking of another physical birth, but Christ explained that the new birth is produced by the Holy Spirit. Flesh can only produce flesh; it can't create spiritual life or make itself righteous before God. The teacher of Israel needed more than instruction, he needed the life that only God could give from above.

Jesus reminded Nicodemus of the serpent Moses lifted up in the wilderness. Dying Israelites weren't healed through effort, law-keeping, or understanding every detail of the miracle; they lived by looking in faith at what God had provided. In the same way, the Son of man would be lifted upon the cross so that everyone who believes in Him might receive everlasting life.

Jesus bore our sins, died, was buried, and rose again the third day. When a sinner believes this gospel, the Holy Spirit gives spiritual life and joins that believer to the risen Christ. The new birth isn't the repair of Adam's condemned life, but the reception of a new identity and everlasting life in the Son of God.

Nicodemus, Born Again Bible TCG Strategy

Nicodemus, Born Again is a scaling Being that grows whenever Hope is Restored. He starts with only 2 Hope, but with the right Restore effects, he can become much stronger and harder to Exile. Because his Ability says whenever a Being is Restored, he can grow from Restore effects that affect Friendly Beings, Enemy Beings, or all Beings.

Restore removes Damage Counters; it doesn't undo set. Record one Nicodemus trigger per Being actually Restored by the instruction, not one per Damage Counter removed. Removing no Damage records no Restore trigger, and set removing Damage isn't Restore.

Synergies

  • Restore scaling: Nicodemus gains +1 Strength and +1 Hope whenever a Being is Restored.

  • Wide Restore effects: Events that Restore Hope to multiple Beings can give Nicodemus multiple bonuses.

  • Stat support: Rise Up And Walk can Give Nicodemus, Born Again extra Strength and Hope. The Strength helps its Challenges, while the Hope increases how much Damage it can withstand without removing existing Damage.
