The Bible Story Behind Passover Offering
Passover Offering depicts the unblemished lamb associated with Israel's worship. Its printed reference, however, comes from the offerings at the completion of a Nazarite's separation. Numbers 6:14 names a male lamb for a burnt offering, a ewe lamb for a sin offering, and a ram for peace offerings. Exodus 12 supplies the distinct setting of the Passover lamb.
The verse upon this card comes from the law of the Nazarite. When the days of a Nazarite's separation were completed, several sacrifices were brought to the door of the tabernacle, including a young lamb for a burnt offering. This offering represented complete surrender to the LORD after a period of consecrated service.
Numbers 6:14 — “And he shall offer his offering unto the LORD, one he lamb of the first year without blemish for a burnt offering, [...]”
The lamb had to be without blemish because the offering reflected the holiness of the God who received it. The same requirement appeared throughout Israel's sacrificial system and in the Passover lamb selected in Egypt. These unblemished animal offerings repeatedly placed a spotless life before the LORD.
All of these unblemished lambs pointed forward to Jesus Christ. He lived without sin, fulfilled every requirement of the law, and was examined publicly before His death. No true fault could be found in Him because He was the spotless Lamb of God prepared to bear the sins of others.
At the cross, Jesus became the complete sacrifice foreshadowed by both the burnt offerings and the Passover. He didn't merely dedicate part of Himself to God, but willingly gave His entire life. Christ our Passover was sacrificed for us, and His blood delivers believers from judgment just as the blood in Egypt marked Israel for deliverance.
