Scared Enemy is a Common Event from the Israel Age, costing 1 Faith. It sets Target Enemy Being's Strength to 1.

The Bible Story Behind Scared Enemy

After the death of Moses, Joshua received the responsibility of leading Israel across Jordan and into the promised land. Powerful nations, fortified cities, and unfamiliar battles stood before him. Yet the LORD didn't tell Joshua to measure the mission by the strength of his enemies. He commanded him to move forward with courage because God Himself would remain with him.

Joshua's confidence was to rest upon both the presence and the word of the LORD. He was commanded to observe the law given through Moses and not turn from it to the right hand or the left. Scared Enemy therefore presents fear losing its strength when God's appointed servant remembers who has commanded him and who goes with him.

Joshua 1:9 — “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

The command didn't mean that Joshua would never feel the pressure of danger. It called him to refuse fear's control because the LORD had promised His presence. Israel's enemies appeared stronger in human terms, but they couldn't defeat the purpose of the God who had given Israel the land and appointed Joshua to lead them into it.

Joshua faced the nations of Canaan, but Jesus Christ confronted enemies far greater than earthly armies. Sin condemned mankind, death held every generation, and the law testified against the guilty. At the cross, Jesus faced them all without turning back and accomplished the victory no other man could win.

Christ bore our sins, satisfied the righteous demands of the law, and entered death willingly. When He rose again, He broke the authority of the grave and secured everlasting life for everyone who believes. The enemies that once inspired hopeless fear have already been defeated by the risen Captain of our salvation.

Scared Enemy Bible TCG Strategy

Scared Enemy is a low-Cost control Event that weakens a dangerous Enemy Being. Setting a high-Strength Enemy Being to 1 can make it much easier to Challenge, survive against, or ignore for a time. This is especially useful against large Beings that rely on high Strength to dominate the Storyline.

Synergies

  • Strength reduction: Scared Enemy sets Target Enemy Being's Strength to 1.

  • Favorable Challenges: Lowering an Enemy Being's Strength can make Challenges against it much safer.

  • Event synergy: Scared Enemy works well in Decks that care about Events being Played.

Questions and Answers

Q: What happens to earlier Strength bonuses when Scared Enemy Sets Strength to 1?

A: Remove earlier direct Strength bonuses and reductions, then establish a modifier against Printed Strength that sets the underlying Strength to 1. External continuous Strength effects still apply separately.

Q: Can Humble undo this set effect?

A: Yes. Humbling the affected Being removes the Set modifier, returning it to Printed Strength plus any applicable external effects. Humbling a different Being doesn't remove the receiver's Set modifier unless that changes an external effect.

Q: What happens if I later Give the Being +2 Strength?

A: It has 3 Strength before external effects. A later set replaces earlier direct changes to that Stat; a later Give adds to the current set value.

Q: Does Setting Strength remove Damage or change Hope?

A: No. Setting Strength affects only Strength. Setting Hope is the operation that also removes all Damage Counters.

Q: Does Scared Enemy make a Being eligible for Saul, Desired Ruler?

A: Only if the Being's resulting Strength is 2 or less and it can legally be Targeted. An external Strength bonus can keep it above that limit, and active Darkness prevents either Targeted effect.
