Tongues Of Fire is an Uncommon Event from the Church Age, costing 2 Faith. It Gives Target Friendly Being +4 Strength this Turn only.

The Bible Story Behind Tongues Of Fire

On the day of Pentecost, the disciples were gathered together in Jerusalem when the promised Holy Ghost came upon them. A sound from heaven like a rushing mighty wind filled the house, and cloven tongues like as of fire appeared and rested upon each of them. The disciples were filled with the Holy Ghost and began speaking as He enabled them.

Jerusalem was filled with devout Jews from many nations who had come for Israel's feast. These visitors heard the disciples declaring the wonderful works of God in the languages into which they had been born. Tongues Of Fire therefore presents a supernatural sign that allowed the testimony of the risen Christ to cross linguistic boundaries with unmistakable clarity.

Acts 2:4 — “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

The miracle didn't produce meaningless confusion. The Spirit gave genuine utterance, and people from many regions understood what was spoken in their own tongues. God was preparing the apostolic witness to move from Jerusalem outward, while showing that the message concerning Jesus Christ wouldn't remain confined to one earthly language or nation.

Pentecost followed the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ. Peter explained the event through the exalted Jesus, who had received the promise of the Holy Ghost and poured out what the crowd could see and hear. The church's earthly witness now went forward in that power, while the later apostolic letters explained its unity as one body in Christ.

Acts records a period of transition as the message moved from Israel to Samaritans and Gentiles, but the apostolic letters reveal the completed truth clearly. Everyone who believes the gospel is baptized by one Spirit into one body, while spiritual gifts are distributed according to God's will. Not every believer receives the same gift, but every believer receives the same Holy Spirit and belongs equally to Jesus Christ.

Questions and Answers

Q: What happens if I Play Tongues Of Fire on John, Water Baptism?

A: John rises from 2 Strength to 6 Strength for the Turn, and Abundance lets him potentially use that 6 Strength in two Challenges.

Q: If both of John's Challenges are direct and legal, how many Bible Points could those Challenges generate?

A: Each successful direct Challenge would deal 6 Damage, for up to 12 Bible Points total.

Q: Can Tongues Of Fire increase a Challenge-triggered fixed effect such as Daniel's 2 point loss?

A: No. It increases the Being's Strength. Fixed point-loss Abilities remain at their printed amounts.

Q: If the Target is Humbled before Challenging, does it keep the +4 Strength?

A: No. Humble removes that direct Strength modifier.

Q: What happens when the Turn ends?

A: The +4 Strength expires automatically because Tongues Of Fire explicitly lasts this Turn only.
