The Bible Story Behind Abundant Multitude
Ezekiel was shown a future temple from which a river flowed eastward through the land of Israel. The waters grew deeper as they traveled until they became a river too great to cross. Abundant Multitude presents the extraordinary restoration produced by this life-giving water during the thousand-year reign of Jesus Christ.
The river will enter the eastern sea, whose waters are presently known for their extreme salt and inability to support ordinary aquatic life. Wherever the prophetic river flows, those waters will be healed and filled with living creatures. A region associated with barrenness and death will become a place of remarkable fruitfulness beneath the government of Israel's Messiah.
Ezekiel 47:9 — “[...] and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.”
The abundance of fish will provide visible evidence that the river has truly transformed the waters. Fishermen will stand along the shore, spreading their nets where little or no life could earlier flourish. This will be a literal restoration of the land and waters, displaying the power of God to bring life into places devastated by judgment and the curse.
This healing belongs to Christ's millennial kingdom and should be distinguished from the new heaven and new earth that follow the Great White Throne. Mortality and the possibility of rebellion will still exist among the earthly nations, yet creation will experience extraordinary peace and abundance beneath the King. The multiplying fish will testify that the world prospers wherever the authority and blessing of Jesus Christ extend.
The One who heals these waters is the same Lord who once commanded the Sea of Galilee, filled the disciples' nets, and called fishermen to follow Him. He later died for our sins, was buried, and rose again as the source of everlasting life. The restored sea will therefore point beyond physical abundance to the risen Christ, from whom every form of true life and blessing proceeds.
