Genesis Set Card 55/250
Afflicted Man is a Common Man Being from the Hebrew Age, costing 1 Faith with 1 Strength, 1 Hope, 1 Reach, and 4 Move. It has no Ability, but it can also be Created by Abram's Bad Dream.
The Bible Story Behind Afflicted Man
When the LORD established His covenant with Abram, He revealed that his descendants would become strangers in a land that wasn't theirs. They would serve another nation and endure affliction for four hundred years. Long before Israel entered Egypt, God already knew their suffering, its appointed length, and the deliverance that would follow.
Their affliction didn't mean that the covenant had failed or that God had forgotten His people. Even while Israel served beneath Pharaoh's cruelty, the nation multiplied and the promise continued. Afflicted Man therefore represents a people suffering beneath oppression while being preserved by the faithfulness of the covenant-keeping God.
Genesis 15:13 — “And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;”

The LORD told Abram to know these things "of a surety," because both the affliction and the deliverance were settled within His purpose. Egypt would oppress Israel, but it wouldn't possess them forever. God would judge the nation they served and bring His people out with great substance. Their suffering had a limit because God's promise had no end.
Jesus entered the affliction of His people and became a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief. He was rejected, falsely accused, beaten, and crucified, yet none of His suffering was outside the purpose of God. Through His affliction, Christ bore our sins, fulfilled the law, and opened the way for a greater deliverance from sin and death.
Israel's deliverance from Egypt belonged to the covenant God made with their fathers, while the church receives salvation through the mystery now revealed in Christ. We aren't Israel beneath Pharaoh. We've been redeemed by the blood of Jesus, delivered from the power of darkness, and sealed by the Holy Ghost.

Synergies
High Mobility: Afflicted Man can Move across the Storyline easily because it has 4 Move.
Token Creation: Abram's Bad Dream can Create four Afflicted Man Tokens.
Storyline flood: Because multiple Afflicted Man Tokens can be Created at once, it works well with wide Storyline strategies and Board-wide buffs.

Questions and Answers
Q: If Abram's Bad Dream Creates an Afflicted Man Token, does that Token count as Played?
A: Yes. It's Played as a Being Verse from the Out Of Game Zone and Created onto the Storyline without paying its Cost.
Q: Does that Token count as a Verse Played from my Hand?
A: No. This is why Abram's Bad Dream can still Create Afflicted Man Tokens while Raphael, One Of Seven is restricting how many Verses you can Play from your Hand.
Q: An Afflicted Man wants to Move three Slots and pass through one Friendly Being. Can its 4 Move make it?
A: Yes. Moving three Slots costs 3 Move, and passing through the Friendly Being costs 1 additional Move.
Q: Can an Afflicted Man Token remain in Exile after being Exiled?
A: No. Once a Token leaves the Storyline, it returns to the Out Of Game Zone rather than remaining in Exile.
Q: Why can Afflicted Man be useful with Board-wide Strength effects even though it only has 1 Printed Strength?
A: Abram's Bad Dream can Create several of them at once. A single effect that strengthens all Friendly Beings can therefore improve several Afflicted Man Tokens at the same time.
