Reach Forth Thy Hand and Behold

Behold The Nail is an Uncommon Event from the Gospel Age, costing just 1 faith and featuring the unique Discern mechanic, allowing you to choose between dealing 1 damage to a target Being or restoring +2 hope to it. This versatility gives you the ability to either apply pressure on the enemy board or sustain one of your own key Beings.

The Hand and the Nail

When I hear behold the nail, I see more than iron piercing flesh. I see the very name of God written in that moment. In the ancient pictographs, the name Yod Hey Vav Hey paints the image: the hand, behold, the nail, behold. The crucifixion is not just an event, it is the divine signature, the Creator’s name sealed in blood. The hand of power reached down, and instead of grasping a weapon, it surrendered to the nail. The same hands that formed the mountains, the seas, and the stars opened wide to receive our judgment.

The nail was not an accident of history. It was prophecy fulfilled, the same truth woven through the Psalms and Isaiah’s words. The Messiah would be pierced. The One who could summon twelve legions of angels instead gave His hands to be bound. The power of God is not in force but in willing sacrifice. Each drop of blood from those hands spoke the language of redemption. It is the cost of sin and the price of grace, joined together in one moment that forever changes eternity.

This card's verse is Isaiah 49:16:

"Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me."

I imagine standing with Thomas, looking at those hands. They are not just scarred, they are testimonies. They speak of a love so deep that it took the form of a servant. The risen Christ invites us to behold and to believe. This is not an empty gesture. This is the fulfillment of the covenant, the moment when the Law meets its satisfaction and grace takes the throne. The same voice that called the universe into existence now calls your name through those marks.

The Power in the Wound

The wound in His side is no less powerful. Blood and water flowed, the sign of life poured out, the cleansing for the world. This is the fountain spoken of in Zechariah, opened for sin and for uncleanness. The hand and the nail, the side and the spear, each a witness, each a doorway into the heart of God. Here the Gospel is not words on a page, but the living reality of the One who was dead and is alive forevermore.

From Genesis to Revelation, the hand of God is the story. The hand that formed Adam is the hand stretched out in Egypt, the hand that writes the Law, the hand that holds the scroll, the hand that breaks the seals, the hand that wipes away every tear. The nail tells us where that hand has been for us, on the cross. The nail tells us what that hand has done for us, paid in full. This is victory sealed in flesh.

Believer, the hand that bears the nail is the same hand that holds you. You are secure in His grip. You are redeemed by His blood. You are sealed with His Spirit. The Gospel of grace is your foundation: Christ died for your sins, He was buried, and He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. You are not left to wonder, you are invited to behold. Look upon His hands, see the truth of your salvation, and live in the fullness of His finished work.

Strategic Use In Gameplay

Behold The Nail thrives in decks that demand flexibility and efficiency. The Discern keyword makes this card function like two spells in one, able to adapt to either offensive or defensive roles with ease. It’s especially effective in midrange and tempo decks that toggle between aggression and board control. In addition, the fact that it can target any Being, friendly or enemy, opens up strategic interactions not commonly found in single-purpose spells.

Synergies and Plays:

  • Apply Pressure or Clear Blockers: Use the damage option to ping down a 1-hope enemy Being or weaken a larger target for a future trade.

  • Sustain Your Frontline: Use the restore mode to extend the life of a vital friendly Being, especially one holding Protect.

  • Versatile Event Synergy: Since it counts as an Event, it's an ideal piece for event combo decks.
