Burning Altar is an Uncommon Event from the Stars Age, costing 2 Faith. It has Discern, letting you choose between dealing 2 Damage to Target Being or Drawing a Verse.
The Bible Story Behind Burning Altar
Burning Altar joins the heavenly altar's fire with the biblical language of sacrifice and judgment. In Bullinger's arrangement, Ara especially stresses judgment upon the Redeemer's enemies. Bible TCG's card brings the image beside Jesus' teaching about fire and salt, keeping the holiness of God and the seriousness of judgment in view.
Mark 9 places the verse after warnings about entering hell and before Jesus' words about having salt and peace among the disciples. The language also recalls the salt required with offerings in Leviticus 2:13. Jesus was teaching His followers the seriousness of the judgment and consecration before them.
Mark 9:49 — “For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.”
Fire and salt carry related themes of judgment, testing, and the consecration of offerings. The altar brings those themes together and shows that approach to a holy God can't rest on indifference toward sin. Hebrews gives the fuller explanation of the sufficient sacrifice offered by Jesus Christ.
Jesus willingly presented Himself upon the altar of the cross. He wasn't forced into death, nor did He suffer for sins of His own. The sinless Son of God bore the judgment that belonged to us, enduring the curse of the law and offering His body once for all as the complete payment for sin.
When Christ rose from the dead, the resurrection declared that His sacrifice had been accepted. Nothing remained to be added, repeated, or completed by human works. The church is therefore not laboring beneath the law to earn acceptance with God. We've been sanctified through the offering of Jesus Christ and stand before God in His righteousness.

Burning Altar is a flexible Event that gives you either removal pressure or card replacement. If there is a Being you need to weaken or finish off, you can deal 2 Damage to it. If you need more options instead, you can Draw a Verse. Because it can Target any Being, not only Enemy Beings, Burning Altar can also be used on your own Being when that creates a strategic benefit.

Card Draw: If Damage isn't the right Play, Burning Altar can help you Draw into more options.
Patience Setup: Since Burning Altar can Target your own Being, it can help activate Patience by damaging one of your own Beings.
Questions and Answers
Q: Can I deliberately Damage my own Being with Burning Altar to activate Patience?
A: Yes. If the Being survives the Damage, becoming damaged can activate its Patience. Apply the Patience effect before making the final Current Hope check.
Q: What if that Being has unused Anointing?
A: Anointing ignores the first Damage it would take. If Burning Altar's Damage is ignored, the Being doesn't become damaged from that instance and Patience won't activate because of it.
Q: What if the Being has Eternal?
A: Eternal prevents the Damage, so Burning Altar can't use its Damage option to make that Being damaged.
Q: Can I still Play Burning Altar for its Draw option if every Being my Opponent controls is protected by Darkness?
A: Yes. The Draw option doesn't require you to Target a Being. Discern lets you choose the option that's legal and useful for the current Game state.
Q: Does choosing Draw prevent other Abilities from recognizing Burning Altar as an Event?
A: No. You still Played an Event. An Ability such as Adder In The Path can trigger even when Burning Altar itself chooses to Draw instead of dealing Damage.
