Genesis Set Card 135/250
Casting Lots is a Rare Event from the Gospel Age, costing 3 Faith. Choose Target Being, Roll a die, then give it that much Strength, that much Hope, and Protect.
The Bible Story Behind Casting Lots
After Jesus was crucified, the Roman soldiers divided His garments among themselves. His coat was woven without seam, so rather than tearing it, they cast lots to determine who would possess it. While the Son of God suffered above them, the soldiers remained occupied with the small material gain available beneath His cross.
Their actions fulfilled what David had written centuries earlier concerning the Messiah: His garments would be divided and lots would be cast for His clothing. Casting Lots therefore presents men unknowingly accomplishing the written purpose of God even while treating the suffering of Jesus with indifference.
Luke 23:34 — “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”

The soldiers acted in ignorance, but their ignorance didn't make the cruelty of the crucifixion righteous. In the middle of His suffering, Jesus prayed for forgiveness rather than calling immediate judgment upon them. The prophecy was fulfilled, mankind's sin was exposed, and the mercy of Christ remained visible at the same moment.
The soldiers could take Jesus' clothing, but they couldn't take His life apart from His willing surrender. Christ had already declared that He possessed authority to lay His life down and take it again. What appeared to be helpless suffering was actually the deliberate offering of the spotless Savior for the sins of the world.
Jesus gave far more than the garments divided beneath the cross. He gave His body, shed His blood, bore our guilt, and entered death in our place. He then rose again the third day, proving that every promise concerning redemption had been fulfilled and that nothing within God's saving purpose had been left to chance.

Casting Lots Bible TCG Strategy
Casting Lots is a powerful upgrade Event with a die Roll. The chosen Being gains Strength and Hope equal to the result of the die Roll, and also gains Protect. Because it can Target any Being, it can Target a Friendly Being or an Enemy Being. Most of the time, you'll use it on a Friendly Being to Create a stronger, more defensive Storyline piece.
Synergies
Die Roll upgrade: Casting Lots can give a Being a large Strength and Hope increase.
Protect support: Giving Protect lets that Being prevents Challenges against adjacent Beings.
High-value Target: Casting Lots is strongest on a Being you want to keep on the Storyline for multiple Turns.

Questions and Answers
Q: If I Roll a 6 on Casting Lots, exactly what does the Target receive?
A: It gains +6 Strength, +6 Hope, and Protect.
Q: Does the +6 Hope from that example remove 6 Damage?
A: No. Giving Hope is different from Restoring Hope. Existing Damage remains on the Being.
Q: What happens if I use Casting Lots on John, Water Baptism?
A: John becomes stronger and harder to Exile, while his existing Abundance lets him use the increased Strength during both of his Challenges.
Q: Could Casting Lots make Lazarus an excellent defender even before I Humble him?
A: Yes. Lazarus still can't Move or Challenge, but the added Strength, Hope, and Protect can make his stationary Storyline presence much more difficult to attack around.

Q: What happens if the upgraded Being is later Humbled?
A: Humble removes the direct Strength and Hope modifiers from Casting Lots and cancels the Protect Ability it granted.
