Genesis Set Card 165/250
Cornelius, First Gentile is a Common Soldier Being from the Church Age, costing 3 Faith with 3 Strength, 1 Hope, 2 Reach, and 3 Move. He has Anointing, allowing him to ignore the first Damage he would take.
The Bible Story Behind Cornelius, First Gentile
Cornelius was a Roman centurion living in Caesarea who feared God, gave generously, and prayed continually. Though respected and devout, his good works couldn't save him or give him the completed knowledge of Jesus Christ. God therefore directed him to send for Peter, who would speak the words through which he and his household could be saved.
Before Peter arrived, the Lord gave him a vision that prepared him to enter a Gentile home without treating its occupants as ceremonially unclean. Peter began to understand that God was showing him not to call any person common or unclean. Cornelius, First Gentile therefore presents the first recorded uncircumcised Gentile household in acts to receive the Holy Ghost openly in this manner, marking a major turning point as the gospel reached the nations.
Acts 10:45 — “And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

Peter preached the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus and declared that everyone who believes in Him receives remission of sins. While he was still speaking, the Holy Ghost fell upon all who heard the Word. The Jewish believers were astonished because God gave these Gentiles the same heavenly gift without first requiring circumcision or conversion into Israel's covenant system.
The experience in Cornelius's house confirmed that salvation rested upon faith in Jesus Christ rather than the works of the law. Cornelius wasn't saved because of his prayers, military position, or generosity, but because he believed the message concerning the crucified and risen Savior. God sealed him with the Holy Ghost immediately, providing visible proof that the Gentiles had been received through grace.
Acts shows the gospel moving from Jerusalem to the nations, while the apostolic letters reveal believing Jews and Gentiles joined by one Spirit into one body. By faith in the gospel, the church receives everything Jesus Christ has secured for His body and bride, while Israel will enjoy her promised blessings when the nation receives Him as her Messiah and King at His second coming.

Cornelius, First Gentile Bible TCG Strategy
Cornelius, First Gentile is a low-Hope Soldier with useful protection. Even though he has only 1 Hope, Anointing helps him survive the first Damage he would take. This makes Cornelius useful for early pressure, safer Challenges, and Soldier-focused Decks that want a Being with strong Strength and built-in Damage protection.
Synergies
Anointing protection: Cornelius ignores the first Damage he would take.
Staying power: Rise Up And Walk can Give Cornelius, First Gentile extra Strength and Hope. Those bonuses remain after its Anointing has prevented one Damage instance.
Early Challenge pressure: With 3 Strength, Cornelius can threaten many early Enemy Beings.

Questions and Answers
Q: What happens if Moses, Law Of God enters while Cornelius has only his printed 1 Hope?
A: An opposing Moses, Law Of God continuously reduces Cornelius's Hope by 1. With no other modifiers, that takes his 1 Hope to 0, causing Exile at the Checkpoint. No Damage occurs, so Anointing can't prevent it.
Q: Can Goliath's Taunts remove Cornelius's Anointing?
A: No. Set removes old direct Hope modifiers and all Damage, then sets the underlying Hope to 1. Anointing is unchanged. An otherwise unmodified Cornelius already has 1 Hope, but external Hope effects continue to apply.
Q: If Cornelius Challenges a 10-Strength Being while his Anointing is unused, can he survive?
A: His Anointing can ignore that first Challenge Damage instance entirely. Cornelius still deals his own 3 Damage at the same time.
Q: What if Cornelius takes a tiny 1-Damage hit before that Challenge?
A: His Anointing is spent on the smaller Damage instance, leaving him vulnerable during the later Challenge.
Q: Why is Cornelius more vulnerable to non-Damage control than his Anointing may make him appear?
A: His protection only handles one Damage instance. Stat reduction, Humble, direct Exile, and other non-Damage effects can bypass it.
