Genesis Set Card 119/250

Daniel, Inside Babylon is a Common Child Being from the Israel Age, costing 4 Faith with 3 Strength, 3 Hope, 4 Reach, and 2 Move. Whenever Daniel Challenges, Target Opponent Loses 2 points.

The Bible Story Behind Daniel, Inside Babylon

Daniel was taken from Jerusalem into Babylon after Nebuchadnezzar conquered Judah. He was selected with other promising children to be taught the language and wisdom of the Chaldeans and prepared for service within the king's palace. Though removed from his homeland, Daniel remained devoted to the God of Israel in the center of a Gentile empire.

When the king appointed food and wine for the young captives, Daniel purposed in his heart that he wouldn't defile himself with the royal portion. He requested a ten-day test in which he and his companions would receive pulse and water. Daniel, Inside Babylon therefore presents a young servant respectfully maintaining faithfulness to God while living beneath foreign authority.

Daniel 1:15 — “And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.”

At the end of the test, Daniel and his companions appeared healthier than those who had eaten from the king's table. Their keeper therefore allowed them to continue, and God gave them knowledge, skill, and wisdom. Their preservation didn't come from rebellion or pride, but from quiet faithfulness joined with the favor and provision of God.

Daniel lived among idolatry without allowing Babylon to reshape his devotion, but Jesus Christ displayed perfect faithfulness in a world entirely corrupted by sin. He was tempted in every way, yet remained without sin and completed every requirement of the law in flawless obedience to the Father.

Daniel's obedience under Israel's dietary covenant could preserve ceremonial faithfulness, but it couldn't provide salvation from sin. Jesus accomplished that greater work by bearing our guilt upon the cross and rising again. The church isn't made clean through Israel's food laws, but through faith in the blood, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Questions and Answers

Q: Does Daniel make the Opponent Lose 2 points even when he Challenges an Enemy Being instead of the Opponent?

A: Yes. His Ability cares that Daniel Challenges. The Challenge doesn't have to be direct.

Q: If Daniel directly Challenges the Opponent, how do his Ability and Challenge Damage differ?

A: His Ability directly makes the Opponent Lose 2 points, which isn't Damage. The direct Challenge separately deals Damage equal to Daniel's Strength, causing you to Gain that many Bible Points.

Q: If Daniel has 5 Strength after Jericho's Trumpet and directly Challenges, what happens?

A: Resolve the direct Challenge first, dealing 5 Damage and Gaining the corresponding Bible Points. Check for the end of the Game. If Play continues, Daniel's queued Ability later makes the Targeted Opponent Lose 2 points; the loss can't happen first or undo a Game already won by the Challenge.

Q: If Daniel has Abundance and Challenges twice, how much direct point loss can his Ability cause?

A: 4 points total, because the Ability can trigger once for each Challenge.

Q: What happens if Daniel is Humbled?

A: Humble Cancels Daniel's Ability, preventing future Challenges from recording it. A Challenge trigger already recorded still resolves after the Challenge and its Checkpoint, even if Daniel is then Humbled or Exiled. His Current Stats and all other Interaction restrictions still govern any later Challenge.
