Genesis Set Card 40/250

Deceptive Serpent is a Common Dragon Being from the Elder Age, costing 3 Faith with 3 Strength, 1 Hope, 1 Reach, and 1 Move. Its Prophecy Ability Creates a Deceived Woman Token.

The Bible Story Behind Deceptive Serpent

In the garden of Eden, the serpent approached the woman with a question designed to create doubt. He didn't begin by openly declaring war against God. Instead, he challenged the accuracy and goodness of what the LORD had spoken, causing Eve to reconsider a commandment that had already been made clear.

The serpent then replaced God's warning with his own promise. He claimed that disobedience wouldn't bring death, but wisdom, advancement, and likeness to God. His words appeared to offer freedom, yet they led Adam and Eve into bondage. Deceptive Serpent reveals that the enemy's lies often promise life while secretly producing death.

Genesis 3:1 — “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”

The serpent was subtle, working through suggestion, distortion, and confusion rather than obvious falsehood alone. His question encouraged the woman to judge the Word of God instead of submitting to it. The first temptation therefore began with an attack against divine truth, showing that doubt concerning what God has said opens the door to deception.

Jesus Christ entered the world as the Word made flesh, full of grace and truth. When the devil tempted Him in the wilderness, Jesus answered every lie with the written Word of God. Unlike Adam and Eve, He never doubted His Father, altered His commandment, or exchanged truth for the promises of the deceiver.

The serpent's lies brought mankind under sin and death, while the law later revealed the full measure of that guilt. Jesus fulfilled the law, bore its curse upon the cross, and rose again in victory. The church isn't delivered by gaining perfect knowledge or keeping commandments without failure, but through faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Questions and Answers

Q: Can Deceptive Serpent Create its Token if Raphael is limiting Plays from Hand?

A: Yes. Deceptive Serpent itself may be your one Verse Played from Hand, but its Token is Played from the Out Of Game Zone.

Q: If Deceptive Serpent is Returned to my Hand and Played again later, does Prophecy happen again?

A: Yes. If it's successfully Created again, its Prophecy Ability triggers again and can Create another Deceived Woman Token.

Q: What happens if there is no open Slot when Prophecy resolves?

A: The Token can't be Created. The Ability doesn't wait for a Slot to open later.

Q: Can the Deceived Woman Token immediately Move or Challenge?

A: Not normally. A newly Created Being must wait until its Controller's next Turn before normal Interaction. Zeal can permit an earlier Challenge, but doesn't permit an immediate Move or bypass Fear.

Q: If both Deceptive Serpent and its Token are later Exiled while Innocent Firstling is active, how many Firstling triggers can that Create?

A: Two, one for each Being Exiled.
