The Bible Story Behind Hungry Cattle
Across the ancient earth, the cattle depended entirely upon the provision of their Creator. They could graze, multiply, and grow strong only because God supplied the land, water, and increase they required. Their hunger was a continual reminder that every living creature receives its life and daily portion from Him.
Within the Elder Age, Hungry Cattle represents the abundance God placed throughout His creation. The earth was designed to bring forth food, and the animals were blessed to multiply according to their kind. Their increase didn't come from their own wisdom or strength, but from the blessing of God upon the life He had made.
Psalm 107:38 — “He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.”
The increase of the cattle showed the favor and faithfulness of the LORD toward His people. He could preserve their herds, make them fruitful, and supply their needs even in a difficult land. Hungry Cattle therefore shows dependence upon God for both provision and increase, because no creature can sustain itself apart from His care.
Jesus revealed Himself as the Bread of life, the One who alone can satisfy the deepest hunger of man. Natural food strengthens the body for a season, but mankind needed life that could overcome sin and death. Christ gave His own body upon the cross and rose again so that all who believe in Him might receive everlasting life.
The law could reveal spiritual hunger, but it couldn't fill the empty heart or make the sinner righteous. The church is supplied through grace, receiving everything necessary in Jesus Christ. He is our righteousness, our peace, and our life, and the Holy Ghost continually ministers the riches of Christ to His body.
