The Bible Story Behind Destroy The Wicked
Before the flood, the earth had become filled with violence and corruption. The wickedness of man was great, and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. What God had created good had been defiled by sin, until the whole world stood ready for righteous judgment.
The flood wasn't an uncontrolled disaster or an act of sudden anger. God had patiently warned the ancient world while Noah prepared the ark, yet mankind continued in rebellion. When the appointed day arrived, the fountains of the great deep were broken up, the windows of heaven were opened, and every refuge outside God's provision failed.
Genesis 7:22 — “All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died.”
The judgment reached every living creature upon the dry land outside the ark. Strength, reputation, wealth, and earthly power couldn't preserve anyone from the sentence God had declared. Destroy The Wicked reveals that sin may continue for a season, but it can never escape the holiness and justice of the Creator.
The flood points toward the certainty of another coming judgment, but it also reveals the mercy of God in providing a place of safety. Jesus Christ is the refuge God has given. At the cross, the righteous judgment against our sins fell upon the sinless Son of God, who bore the curse in our place and rose again from the dead.
The church doesn't stand beneath the condemnation awaiting the unbelieving world. Jesus fulfilled the law, answered every charge against us, and delivered us from the wrath to come. We're justified by His blood, sealed by the Holy Ghost, and hidden in the risen Christ, not preserved by our own righteousness or obedience.
