Delivered Captive is an Uncommon Man Being from the Gospel Age, costing 3 Faith with 3 Strength, 7 Hope, 2 Reach, and 4 Move. Its Prophecy Ability deals 4 Damage to itself.

The Bible Story Behind Delivered Captive

When Jesus entered the country of the Gadarenes, He was immediately met by a man possessed with an unclean spirit. The man lived among the tombs, cried continually, and wounded himself with stones. Though others had bound him with chains and fetters, no human restraint could free him from the spiritual power controlling his life.

The unclean spirits recognized Jesus and feared His authority, identifying themselves as Legion because they were many. At Christ's command, they left the man and entered a herd of swine, which ran violently into the sea. Delivered Captive therefore presents the Son of God confronting an entire legion of devils and releasing the man they had held captive.

Mark 5:15 — “And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.”

The people who arrived found a complete transformation: the man who had once lived naked among the dead was now seated peacefully, clothed, and thinking clearly. When he asked to remain with Jesus, the Lord instead sent him home to tell his friends what great things had been done for him. The former captive became a living witness throughout Decapolis to the mercy and authority of Christ.

The legion could overpower chains, terrify communities, and torment a helpless man, but it couldn't resist one command from Jesus. Christ didn't struggle for authority over the devils because that authority already belonged to Him. The powers of darkness recognized the Son of God even when many people surrounding Him didn't understand who He was.

Jesus later accomplished a greater deliverance through His death and resurrection. At the cross, He bore our sins, answered the law's judgment, and spoiled the spiritual powers that held mankind beneath sin and death. Through faith in His blood and finished work, believers are delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of God's dear Son.

Delivered Captive Bible TCG Strategy

Delivered Captive has strong Stats for its Cost, but it Damages itself when it's Created. After taking 4 Damage, it can still remain on the Storyline with a strong body if it's not Exiled. This makes Delivered Captive useful in Decks that can Restore Hope, increase Hope, or take advantage of a damaged Friendly Being.

Synergies

  • Strong base Stats: Delivered Captive starts with 3 Strength and 7 Hope for only 3 Faith.

  • Self-Damage setup: Its Prophecy Ability deals 4 Damage to itself when it's Created.

  • Hope support: Restore and Hope-increasing effects can help Delivered Captive stay strong after its self-Damage.

Questions and Answers

Q: After Delivered Captive deals 4 Damage to itself, what is its normal Current Hope?

A: It has 7 Hope and 4 Damage, leaving it at 3 Current Hope.

Q: Does that self-Damage give my Opponent Bible Points?

A: No. Delivered Captive is a Being. Damage dealt to Beings doesn't award Bible Points.

Q: Can I prevent the Prophecy Damage by Playing Oil Anointing on Delivered Captive after it's Created?

A: No. Its Prophecy triggers as part of being Created, so by the time you can make a later normal Play, the self-Damage has already occurred.

Q: What happens if I use Rise To The Top on Delivered Captive afterward?

A: Rise To The Top can remove up to 5 Damage. Since Delivered Captive normally has 4 Damage from Prophecy, it can be fully Restored.

Q: What happens if Nicodemus is active when I Restore that Damage?

A: Nicodemus activates once because Delivered Captive was Restored, regardless of whether you removed 1 Damage or all 4 in that single Restoration.
