Ferocious Bear is a Common Beast Being from the Israel Age, costing 3 Faith with 2 Strength, 4 Hope, 1 Reach, and 2 Move. It has Protect, allowing it to prevents Challenges against adjacent Beings.

The Bible Story Behind Ferocious Bear

Before David faced Goliath, he had already learned to protect his father's sheep from dangerous predators. While tending the flock, a lion and a bear came and carried away a lamb. David didn't treat the loss as unavoidable or abandon the helpless animal to its fate.

He pursued the predator, struck it, and rescued the lamb from its mouth. When the beast turned against him, David caught it and killed it. Ferocious Bear therefore presents a young shepherd placing himself between the flock and a powerful enemy to recover what had been taken.

1 Samuel 17:34 — “And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:”

David told Saul about these victories because they had taught him to trust the LORD before he ever entered the valley against Goliath. The bear was stronger than David naturally, yet God had delivered him from its paw. Past deliverance gave the shepherd confidence that the same LORD could also deliver him from the Philistine giant.

David risked his life to rescue one lamb, but Jesus Christ gave His life to save His entire flock. Humanity had been taken beneath the power of sin and death, and no sheep could rescue itself. The Good Shepherd entered the danger willingly and stood between His people and the enemy that sought to destroy them.

At the cross, Jesus allowed Himself to be struck and killed, yet His death became the means of victory. He bore our sins, fulfilled the law, and rose again from the grave, breaking the power of the one who held mankind in bondage. The Shepherd wasn't overcome by the predator; through death, He destroyed its claim over His sheep.

With 4 Hope, it can take more Damage than many early Beings, making it useful for holding the Storyline. Because Protect only works with adjacent Beings, Ferocious Bear is strongest when placed beside Beings you want to protect from Challenges.

Synergies

  • Protecting key Beings: Ferocious Bear can prevent Challenges against adjacent Friendly Beings.

  • Durable Storyline presence: With 4 Hope, Ferocious Bear can stay on the Storyline and absorb pressure.

  • Support positioning: Create or Move Ferocious Bear beside a support Being such as Brave Leader. Its Protect can prevent Challenges against that adjacent Friendly Being.

A: Yes. Once Darkness ends after that Being Interacts, an adjacent Ferocious Bear can still protect it from Challenges through Protect.

Q: What happens if Ferocious Bear is Humbled?

A: Its Protect is canceled, but its printed 2 Strength, 4 Hope, 1 Reach, and 2 Move remain.

Q: Can an Enemy Being ignore Ferocious Bear's Protect by having very high Reach?

A: No. Reach determines whether a position can be reached. Protect is a separate restriction that prevents the Challenge even if the attacking Being has enough Reach.
