Jonah, Sent To Gentiles is a Rare Prophet Being from the Israel Age, costing 3 Faith with 1 Strength, 4 Hope, 3 Reach, and 1 Move. Whenever Jonah takes Damage, you Draw a Verse.

The Bible Story Behind Jonah, Sent To Gentiles

Jonah had fled from the command to preach to Nineveh, but the LORD pursued His prophet through the storm and the great fish. For three days and three nights, Jonah remained in the depths with no ability to free himself. There he prayed from his distress and confessed that salvation belongs to the LORD.

God didn't preserve Jonah merely to return him safely to Israel. The prophet still had a message to deliver to the Gentile city he had tried to avoid. Jonah, Sent To Gentiles therefore presents a disciplined servant being restored to life, land, and the mission God had appointed for him.

Jonah 2:10 — “And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.”

The fish released Jonah only when the LORD commanded it, showing that every part of his preservation remained under divine control. God then repeated His command, and Jonah entered Nineveh proclaiming coming judgment. The Gentiles believed God, humbled themselves, and received mercy when the threatened destruction was withheld.

Jesus Christ declared Jonah's three days and three nights to be a sign of His own burial and resurrection. Unlike Jonah, Jesus didn't enter suffering because He had disobeyed God. The sinless Son willingly entered death in perfect obedience so that guilty sinners could receive life.

After rising from the grave, Christ sent the message of salvation beyond Israel to all nations. The church was formed from believing Jews and Gentiles through one gospel: that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. Nineveh received temporary deliverance after believing God's warning, but believers in Christ receive everlasting salvation through His finished work.

Questions and Answers

Q: Does Jonah Draw once per Damage point or once per Damage instance?

A: Once per actual Damage instance. Taking 3 Damage as one instance records one Draw trigger, not three.

Q: Does lethal Damage still trigger Jonah?

A: Yes. If his Ability is active when he actually takes Damage, the trigger is recorded even if the following check Exiles him. The queued Draw still resolves if the Game continues.

Q: When does Jonah Draw after Adder Damages him?

A: Adder's Damage and the following check finish first. Jonah's trigger joins the back of the Queue, behind anything already waiting. Jonah doesn't Draw in the middle of Adder's Damage.

Q: Can Anointing or Eternal prevent Jonah's Draw trigger?

A: Yes. Prevented Damage isn't Damage taken, so it records no Jonah trigger. Eternal prevents Damage before Anointing would be used.

Q: How do Wounding Sword and Crown Of Thorns interact with Jonah?

A: Wounding Sword records one trigger for each separate hit Jonah actually takes, including the lethal hit; Checkpoints between repeats prevent further hits on a Jonah already Exiled. The Draws wait until the Sword finishes. Crown's Damage records Jonah's trigger before Humble cancels his Ability, so that already recorded Draw remains queued.
