The Bible Story Behind Joseph, Come Near
Joseph's brethren came into Egypt seeking food during the famine, but they didn't recognize the ruler standing before them. The brother they had hated, stripped, and sold into slavery was now the man appointed to preserve life throughout the land. Joseph knew them immediately, yet he concealed his identity until the proper moment.
When Joseph could no longer restrain himself, he sent the Egyptians from the room and wept aloud before his brethren. Their fear was understandable, for they now stood powerless before the brother they had wronged. Yet Joseph didn't call them near to destroy them. Joseph, Come Near presents the rejected brother inviting the guilty into his presence for reconciliation.
Genesis 45:4 — “And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.”
