The Teacher in the Night
Nicodemus came to Jesus under the cover of night, a teacher of Israel carrying the weight of the Law and the traditions of the elders. He knew the Scriptures, he understood the sacrifices, he could quote the prophets. Yet when it came to the heart of salvation, he stood in the dark. Jesus cut straight through the confusion with a simple, unshakable truth: "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" - John 3:3.
This was not about reforming the old life. This was about receiving an entirely new life, one that could only come from above. The birth Nicodemus knew was of the flesh, but the birth Jesus spoke of was of the Spirit.
