River Of Punishment is a Common Event from the Stars Age, costing 5 Faith. It has Discern, letting you choose between dealing 5 Damage to Target Enemy Being or dealing 2 Damage to all Enemy Beings.

The Bible Story Behind River Of Punishment

Among the signs in the heavens appears the river, flowing downward through the darkness as though proceeding from the place of judgment. It isn't pictured as a quiet stream of refreshment, but as a solemn course leading to destruction. Within the Stars Age, the river declares that the rebellion of the wicked shall reach an appointed end.

The river appears in the portion of the heavenly story concerning the return of Jesus Christ and the overthrow of His enemies. When the King comes in glory, the armies gathered against Him shall fall, the beast and the false prophet shall be judged, and the earth shall behold the righteous vengeance of the Lord openly revealed.

Isaiah 34:9 — “And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.”

Isaiah 34 describes judgment upon Idumea, also called Edom, using burning pitch and brimstone to picture devastation. The burning streams show how completely the LORD brings rebellion beneath judgment. The heavenly river carries that same solemn warning through the story: the wicked cannot make their resistance endure forever.

Jesus first came to bear sin, suffer rejection, and give His life a ransom for many. When He returns, He shall not come again as the suffering Lamb, but as the King of kings and Lord of lords. He will judge the nations in righteousness, destroy the armies gathered against Him, and cast down every power that has opposed His rule.

The church doesn't stand beneath this condemnation. Jesus fulfilled the law, bore its curse, and answered every charge against us through His blood. Those who are in Christ aren't appointed to wrath, but are justified freely by His grace and joined to the risen Lord who shall return in victory.

River Of Punishment Bible TCG Strategy

River Of Punishment is a flexible removal Event that can answer different Storyline situations. If your Opponent has one major threat, you can deal 5 Damage to Target Enemy Being. If your Opponent has several smaller Beings, you can deal 2 Damage to all Enemy Beings instead. Because of Discern, River Of Punishment gives you control over whether you want focused removal or wide Storyline pressure.

Synergies

  • Single Threat Removal: Use the 5 Damage option to weaken or Exile one dangerous Enemy Being.

  • Wide Storyline Damage: Use the 2 Damage option when your Opponent has multiple Enemy Beings on the Storyline.

  • Pray Synergy: Since River Of Punishment is an Event that deals Damage, Beings with Pray can increase its Damage.

Questions and Answers

Q: My Opponent has a Being with Darkness that hasn't Interacted. Which River Of Punishment option can affect it?

A: The 5 Damage option can't Target that protected Being. The 2 Damage option affects all Enemy Beings without Targeting them, so Darkness doesn't stop it.

Q: If I have Pray +2 and choose the wide option, how much Damage does each Enemy Being take?

A: The Event Damage is increased by 2, so each affected Enemy Being takes 4 Damage.

Q: What if an affected Enemy Being has Eternal?

A: Eternal prevents the Damage regardless of which Discern option you chose.

Q: What if an Enemy Being has unused Anointing?

A: Anointing can ignore the first Damage instance that River Of Punishment would deal to that Being. Once it does, that Anointing is used.

Q: Why can the 2 Damage option sometimes be stronger than the 5 Damage option even against one important threat?

A: The wide option doesn't Target. If the important threat is protected by Darkness, or if damaging several additional Beings creates more total value, the lower individual Damage may produce the stronger overall result.
