Genesis Set Card 133/250

Roman Soldier is a Common Soldier Being from the Gospel Age, costing 2 Faith with 2 Strength, 2 Hope, 2 Reach, and 1 Move. It has no Ability, but it can also be Created by Crucifixion Centurion.

The Bible Story Behind Roman Soldier

When Jesus entered Capernaum, a Roman centurion came to Him because his servant was grievously sick. As an officer commanding soldiers, the centurion understood how authority worked: he gave orders, and those beneath him obeyed. Yet he approached Jesus humbly because he recognized an authority far greater than anything Rome had given him.

The centurion didn't believe Jesus needed to enter his house or touch the suffering servant. He trusted that Christ could simply speak, and the sickness would obey His command. Roman Soldier therefore presents a Gentile military leader placing complete confidence in the powerful word of Israel's Messiah.

Matthew 8:5 — “And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,”

Jesus marveled at the centurion's faith and declared that He hadn't found such faith in Israel. The servant was healed in the same hour, though Jesus never physically entered the centurion's home. The miracle revealed that distance, disease, and earthly rank were all subject to the authority of the Son of God.

The centurion's authority depended upon the empire above him, but Jesus possesses authority within Himself as Lord over creation. Winds, sickness, devils, and death obeyed His voice throughout the gospel narratives. The same Christ who healed by speaking also possessed authority to forgive sins and give everlasting life.

Jesus later submitted Himself to Roman soldiers, not because their authority was greater, but because He willingly went to the cross. He bore our sins, died, was buried, and rose again with all power in heaven and earth. The King placed Himself beneath human judgment so that guilty Jews and Gentiles could be brought together within His church by grace.

Roman Soldier Bible TCG Strategy

Roman Soldier is a simple early Soldier that gives you steady Storyline presence. Roman Soldier can also be Created as a Token by Crucifixion Centurion, making it useful in Decks that want to build a wider Storyline with Soldiers.

Synergies

  • Early Storyline presence: Roman Soldier gives you a simple 2-Cost Being with balanced Stats.

Questions and Answers

Q: If Samson, Wild Honey is Created beside a Roman Soldier Token, does the Token receive Samson's +1 Strength?

A: Yes. Samson's Prophecy looks at the adjacent Beings when it resolves, and the Roman Soldier Token is a Being on the Storyline.

Q: What if the Roman Soldier Token is Created beside Samson after Samson's Prophecy already resolved?

A: It doesn't receive the old +1 Strength. Samson's Prophecy was a one-time effect on the Beings that were adjacent when it resolved.

Q: Can a Roman Soldier Token Challenge and Block exactly like the normal Roman Soldier Verse?

A: Yes. While on the Storyline, it functions as a Being and uses the applicable Stats and Being rules.

Q: What happens if the Roman Soldier Token is Returned by Holy Festival?

A: It leaves the Storyline and returns to the Out of Game Zone rather than remaining in a Hand.

Q: Can Humble reduce an unmodified Roman Soldier Token's Printed Strength or Hope?

A: No. It has no printed Ability to cancel, and Humble doesn't remove its base Stats.
