Genesis Set Card 123/250

Samson, Wild Honey is a Common Soldier Being from the Israel Age, costing 6 Faith with 4 Strength, 7 Hope, 4 Reach, and 5 Move. His Prophecy Ability gives adjacent Beings +1 Strength.

The Bible Story Behind Samson, Wild Honey

While traveling toward Timnath, Samson had been attacked by a young lion near the vineyards. The Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, enabling him to tear the animal apart without a weapon. When Samson later passed the same place, the threat that had once roared against him lay defeated beside the road.

A swarm of bees had formed within the lion's carcass and produced honey. Samson took the honey into his hands, ate as he traveled, and shared some with his father and mother. Samson, Wild Honey therefore presents unexpected sweetness and nourishment emerging from the remains of an enemy already overcome.

Judges 14:9 — “And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.”

Samson concealed the source of the honey from his parents, and the episode later supplied his wedding riddle. The wider account combines extraordinary strength with troubling choices, including the uncleanness associated with an animal's carcass. The card's sweetness-from-defeat imagery is a selected comparison, rather than an endorsement of every action in Samson's life.

The honey within the defeated lion offers a fitting picture of the grace that came through the victory of Jesus Christ. Death had reigned over mankind through sin, but Jesus willingly entered death and overcame it. From the place that appeared to contain only defeat came forgiveness, resurrection, and everlasting life.

Christ didn't merely survive the cross; He used His death to destroy the claim of sin against everyone who believes. He fulfilled the law, bore our guilt, and rose again with the sweetness of salvation to share with His people. The empty grave now feeds the church with hope because the enemy that once terrified mankind has been openly defeated.

Questions and Answers

Q: If Samson is Created between two Beings, when is adjacency checked?

A: When his Prophecy resolves. The Beings adjacent to Samson at that time receive the +1 Strength.

Q: If one of those Beings later Moves away from Samson, does it lose the +1 Strength?

A: No. Samson's Prophecy is a completed one-time grant rather than an ongoing "Adjacent Beings have +1 Strength" Ability.

Q: Does a Being that Moves beside Samson later receive +1 Strength?

A: No. It wasn't adjacent when Samson's Prophecy resolved.

Q: What happens if Samson is Humbled after his Prophecy already resolved?

A: The Strength already granted to the adjacent Beings remains. Humbling Samson doesn't reverse the completed Prophecy.

Q: What happens if one of the Beings that received Samson's +1 Strength is Humbled?

A: Humble removes that direct Strength modifier from the Humbled receiver.
