Genesis Set Card 27/250
Shame's Awakening is an Uncommon Event from the Elder Age, costing 1 Faith. It sets Target Being's Hope to 1.
The Bible Story Behind Shame's Awakening
In the garden of Eden, Adam and Eve had known innocence, fellowship, and freedom from guilt. After they ate of the forbidden tree, their eyes were opened in a way the serpent hadn't honestly revealed. They didn't rise into godly wisdom or greater glory. Instead, sin awakened shame, fear, and the knowledge of their nakedness.
Their first response was to sew fig leaves together and make themselves aprons. Rather than coming openly before God, they attempted to cover the evidence of their fall with the work of their own hands. The leaves could hide part of their bodies from one another, but no earthly covering could remove their guilt before the LORD.
Genesis 3:7 — “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.”

Their shame revealed the inward change produced by sin. Man had lost his innocence and now stood exposed before the holiness of God. The knowledge of good and evil didn't give Adam and Eve the power to perform the good or escape the evil. It left them conscious of their condition and unable to restore what their disobedience had broken.
Jesus entered the fallen world without sharing in its sin. He was holy, harmless, undefiled, and perfectly obedient to the Father. Yet at the cross, He allowed Himself to be stripped, mocked, and openly shamed. The sinless Son of God endured the shame that belonged to guilty mankind, bearing our sins in His own body upon the tree.
The fig leaves of human righteousness can never make a sinner acceptable before God. The law reveals our nakedness, but it can't clothe us. Through faith in Jesus Christ, the believer is no longer covered by works, promises, or religious effort. We're clothed with the righteousness of Christ, accepted entirely because of His finished work.

Shame's Awakening Bible TCG Strategy
Shame's Awakening is a low-Cost Event that can make a major Being much easier to Exile. By setting a Target Being's Hope to 1, it can turn even a large threat into something that can be removed with a small amount of Damage. Because it can Target any Being, not only Enemy Beings, it can also be used on your own Being in rare situations where changing its Hope to 1 helps your strategy.
Synergies
Weakening big Beings: Shame's Awakening can make high-Hope Beings much easier to remove.
Damage follow-up: After setting a Being's Hope to 1, even 1 Damage may be enough to Exile it.
Event synergy: Shame's Awakening works well in Decks that care about Events being Played.

Questions and Answers
Q: What happens when a Being with 4 Printed Hope and 2 Damage has its Hope Set to 1?
A: Remove its existing direct Hope modifiers and all Damage Counters, then apply a -3 Hope modifier against its 4 Printed Hope. It has 1 Current Hope before external continuous effects. This is set, not Restore.
Q: What happens if that Being is then Humbled?
A: Humble removes the -3 Hope modifier. With no Damage remaining and no external Hope effects, the Being returns to 4 Hope. Humble itself doesn't remove Damage; Setting Hope already removed it.
Q: Can I Target my own Being while its Darkness is active?
A: No. Active Darkness prevents Targeting by every Player, including the Being's Controller. Shame's Awakening needs a legal Target to apply its set effect.
Q: Does set override an external Hope bonus or reduction?
A: No. External continuous effects still apply. Set to 1 with Bride, Lamb's Wife Giving +2 Hope produces 3 Hope; Set to 1 under an opposing Moses, Law Of God's -1 Hope produces 0 Hope and Exile at the Checkpoint.
Q: Can Eternal or Anointing prevent the set effect?
A: No. Set doesn't deal Damage. A later 1-Damage effect can Exile a Being at 1 Current Hope only if that Damage isn't prevented.
