Tempting Fruit is an Uncommon Event from the Elder Age, costing 1 Faith. It deals 2 Damage to Target Opponent.

The Bible Story Behind Tempting Fruit

In the garden of Eden, the woman beheld the fruit of the forbidden tree and judged it according to her own desire. It appeared good for food, pleasant to the eyes, and able to make one wise. The temptation promised increase, but concealed the death that would follow when the word of God was disobeyed.

The serpent had first weakened her confidence in what God had spoken. Once His commandment was questioned, the forbidden fruit appeared more desirable than the abundance already provided throughout the garden. Eve took and ate, and Adam willingly ate with her. Through one act of disobedience, sin entered into the world, and death by sin.

Genesis 3:6 — “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”

The fruit was desirable to Eve, but its appearance couldn't overturn God's command. Adam and Eve chose to eat what He had forbidden, and their transgression brought the knowledge of guilt rather than the innocence they had lost. Romans 5 later sets Adam's disobedience beside the obedience of Jesus Christ, showing why mankind needs a Savior greater than the first man.

Where Adam disobeyed in a garden filled with abundance, Jesus obeyed in a wilderness of hunger and later in a garden of sorrow. The devil tempted Him, yet Christ never departed from the word of His Father. He remained without sin and became the one obedient Man who could answer the transgression of the first Adam.

Jesus was made under the law and fulfilled it perfectly before bearing its curse upon the cross. Through Adam's offense judgment came upon mankind, but through the obedience of Christ the free gift came to justification of life. The church is therefore not under the law, but under grace, receiving righteousness through faith in Jesus rather than through human obedience.
