The Bible Story Behind Timothy, Greek Jew
Timothy was the son of a believing Jewish woman and a Greek father. His mother Eunice and grandmother Lois had taught him Israel's Scriptures from childhood, preparing him to recognize the salvation revealed through Jesus Christ. His family background placed him naturally between the Jewish and Gentile worlds into which the gospel was rapidly spreading.
Paul chose Timothy to accompany him in ministry and had him circumcised because the Jews in that region knew his father was Greek. This wasn't done to earn salvation or place Timothy beneath the law for righteousness, but to remove an unnecessary obstacle while preaching among Jewish communities. Timothy, Greek Jew therefore presents a young believer serving during acts' transition as the gospel moved from Israel to the Gentile world.

Timothy's ministry didn't create his calling, righteousness, or acceptance before God. God's purpose and grace had already been given in Jesus Christ before the world began, and Timothy was saved entirely through the finished work of the risen Savior. The church is likewise saved apart from works, sealed by the Holy Ghost, and preserved by the same Lord in whom every believer is already accepted and complete.
