The Woman Being Deceived
Deceived Woman is a 1 Strength, 1 Hope Woman from the Alpha Age. It is a Token, which means it is not placed in your deck or hand, you only see it in play when a specific verse creates it, such as Deceptive Serpent or Adam, One Flesh.
The First Deception
In the garden, beneath the beauty of creation and the abundance of God’s provision, a lie entered the world. The serpent’s words dripped with false promise, twisting the truth into a snare. Eve, the mother of all living, stood in the midst of perfection, yet the voice of temptation sought to lead her into disobedience. The beguiling was subtle, appealing to the desire for wisdom, for something more than what was already given by God’s goodness.
It was in this moment that the seed of sin took root in humanity’s story. The serpent promised enlightenment, but true wisdom had already been offered in the presence of the Creator. The act of eating was not about fruit, but about trust, trust in the voice of God or trust in the voice of the deceiver. This was the birth of rebellion, when humanity chose independence from the One who gave them life.
This card's verse is Genesis 3:13:
"And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat."
Yet even here, before the dust of the curse settled on the ground, God spoke a promise. He declared that the seed of the woman would crush the head of the serpent. This was not merely a judgment, it was a prophecy of victory. The One who would come, born of a woman, would undo the works of the devil. From the beginning, the gospel was already woven into the fabric of the story.

The Serpent’s Defeat
Throughout the ages, the adversary continued his work of deception, whispering lies to kings, nations, and individuals. Yet God’s plan moved forward. In the Law and the Prophets, in the Psalms and the promises, the picture of the coming Redeemer grew clearer. Isaiah saw Him as the suffering Servant. David called Him Lord. Moses foretold a Prophet greater than himself. Every shadow pointed to Christ.
At the cross, the serpent’s power was broken. What began in Eden with deceit ended at Calvary with truth. "Having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it" - Colossians 2:15. The victory was not hidden. It was declared in the sight of heaven and earth, for the blood of the Lamb sealed the fate of the deceiver forever.
Believer, our identity is not tied to the fall, but to the finished work of Christ. We are the redeemed, clothed in His righteousness, and sealed with His Spirit. The grace of God has brought us into fellowship with Him, not by our effort, but by His mercy. In Christ, the serpent’s voice holds no authority over us. We walk in the freedom of the One who crushed his head. We live by faith in the Son of God, knowing that His victory is our victory, and His life is now our life.
