The Bible Story Behind Imprisoned Dragon
Immediately after Jesus Christ returns at Armageddon, an angel will descend from heaven carrying the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain. He will seize satan and confine him within the abyss. Imprisoned Dragon presents the literal removal of the deceiver before Christ begins His thousand-year reign upon the earth.
Satan will no longer move among the nations, empower rebellious kingdoms, or spread his lies throughout the world. The pit will be shut and sealed over him so that he can't escape before the appointed time. The kingdom's peace will rest beneath Christ's righteous authority while the ancient serpent remains completely restrained.
Revelation 20:2 — “And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,”
The verse identifies the imprisoned dragon as the same serpent who deceived Eve and the same satan who opposed God throughout Scripture. His binding will last for a real thousand years, corresponding with the period in which Christ and His saints reign. The enemy who once deceived the whole world will be unable to interfere with the King's open government from Jerusalem.
Jesus secured the decisive victory over satan through His death, burial, and resurrection. At Armageddon, He will openly overthrow the beast's kingdom; afterward, satan will be confined while the rightful King restores order upon the earth. The dragon's imprisonment will show that every power of darkness remains subject to the authority of the crucified and risen Christ.
During these thousand years, Israel will dwell beneath her Messiah, the bride will reign beside her Bridegroom, resurrected saints and servants will receive authority, the sons of Zadok will minister, and earthly nations will live beneath Christ's rule. Satan's absence won't remove mankind's need for genuine faith, as his later release will expose remaining rebellion among the nations. Perfect government can restrain evil outwardly, but only the life of God can transform the heart.
