The Wrath of Brothers and the Promise in Scattering

United Brothers is a Common Event card from the Hebrew Age, costing 0 faith to play. It applies Fear to a target enemy being, preventing interaction for two turns (the turn played and the next one). This low-cost utility tool can shift momentum in your favor by pausing a major threat, especially in decks with Event synergy or strategies that need to protect a key being.

Two Brothers, One Violent Legacy

Simeon and Levi, two of Jacob’s sons, acted with fierce unity in the aftermath of Dinah’s defilement. They crafted a deceptive plan, demanding circumcision from Shechem’s men before slaughtering them all in their weakness. Their actions, fueled by rage, stained their family’s name with cruelty and vengeance.

This card's verse is Genesis 49:5:

"Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations."

Jacob, their father, was deeply disturbed. In Genesis 49, as he gave blessings and prophecies to his sons, he pronounced a judgment on Simeon and Levi: they would be scattered in Israel. He said they were "instruments of cruelty", a sobering reminder that violence born of wrath never leads to God’s glory.

But as we watch their story unfold, we see God’s sovereignty in motion. Though scattered, their destinies were not identical. One line would be lost, the other redeemed.

From Scattered Wrath to Scattered Grace

Simeon slowly fades in the history of Israel. His tribe received no distinct land, absorbed within Judah, eventually diminished. His path is a warning: wrath without repentance leads to loss. Yet grace still speaks. In Revelation 7, Simeon is listed among the tribes sealed, hinting at restoration through the Lamb.

Levi, though also scattered, was redeemed by zeal. When the golden calf defiled Israel, the Levites stood up for God (Exodus 32). That fire of devotion was channeled into holiness, and they became priests, ministers of the law throughout Israel. Their inheritance was God Himself.

The scattering, although difficult, became a mission. Just like Jesus would later send His disciples to the nations, God used Levi to spread His word across the land.

And all of this, yes, even the “instruments of cruelty”, point us to the cross. The most cruel instrument in history became the very channel of salvation. “It pleased the LORD to bruise him” – Isaiah 53:10. Jesus bore divine wrath, turning vengeance into victory, and scattering redemption across the earth.
